The difference is that one of those is tampering and against league rules. If true the Vikings are gonna get a nice spanking... I'm not sure if there is any course of action that can be taken against Favre.

I love how he is walking around like an innocent man, he knows he is going to be indicted for manslaughter any day now.

He was asked not to report to training camp until all the issues have been sorted out. In other words, until we find a way to unload your tired ass.

Asked Monday if he'd ever consider trading Brett Favre to another NFC North club, Packers GM Ted Thompson replied "No."

The only way Favre would get to Chicago, Minnesota, or Detroit is via release, and the Packers aren't going that route. "To just offer a blanket release and just relinquishing all the club’s rights, to me, doesn’t make good business sense," Thompson said.

This is a problem I have with the Packers in this whole thing. Favre was "retired" and GB was moving on with Rodgers. You don't get anything for a retired player. But, now that he wants to play, Thompson doesn't want to just give him away. You have to stay consistent. I think you either keep him (even if it is just to fuck with him) or you let him go because you have truly moved on.

I think the Packers were looking better in the early days of this, but this typical corporate greed attitude is going to swing things towards Favre.
Will it blend? That is the question.

Is it greed or is it the cap hit they're going to take by releasing him? Since he never put his papers in and officially retired, he's still a Packer and if they outright release him, they're going to suffer the penalty. I believe he is under a pretty recent deal too. Then again, I'm not so sure a trade relives them of the cap hit, but at least they get something in return for it.

I think the NFL is going to have to make a special ruling to resolve this.

If it's a cap issue, then I understand and the Packers should be saying something. I believe they have cap issues when they pay a big upfront bonus and prorate it over the length of the contract. Which, in that case, GB would be eating whether he played or was retired.

Then again, since NFL contracts aren't guaranteed like baseball, I don't think they would be cap or cash responsible for anything related to Favre.
Will it blend? That is the question.

Looking at one website, the Pack have a $1.4M salary cap hit for Favre that isn't related to base salary. So, they are going to eat that regardless of how the situation ends.
Will it blend? That is the question.

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The NFL has confirmed that Brett Favre has sent in his reinstatement papers, requiring the Green Bay Packers to take action.

The Packers now have 24 hours to either put him on the roster, trade him or release him.
