That's what I'm going to call my red squier strat when I'm done overhauling it.
I decided to stick with gold hardware, for the most part. so here's what I'm thinking.
gold jack plate, black jack nut.
gold Wilkinson 6-screw trem, black saddles
black pickguard.
gold covered humbuckers with black hex screws poking out the polepiece holes (Full shred and Screamin' Demon)
gold knobs with black acrylic caps on the top
gold toggle switch with black switch tip
gold mini toggles
gold tuners with black bushings.
This way, I get to keep a bit of that gold hardware look, while using black to subdue it and prevent it from looking super flashy. I feel like the black might go nicely with the blackish grain patterns on the swamp ash.
There's a couple of meanings behind the name "The Red Herring"
1) it's my only swamp ash strat, in fact my only swamp ash guitar, and the only swamp ash guitar I've ever owned, so it's kinda unique.
2) I hate red. And I don't know what to do with it. I'm still not even sure if my planned colour scheme is going to even look good. I have no idea how to gauge the look of red things because I just hate anything red. It also sticks out like a sore thumb amongst my other guitars.
3) The inspiration behind me wanting to turn it into an HH is my recent discovery of Jimmy Herring and the wonderful tones he gets out of his HH strats.
I'd do up a picture but I'd basically have to photoshop my way through it instead of using kisekae or whatever. it'd be a huge pain in the ass finding all the pictures to shop in and then stitching em all together.
whaddy'all think?
