Dental rant
#1
I spend very little on medical care. Thankfully I have had very few medical needs.

OTOH, I give the dentist far too much money. It has been somewhat better for a couple of years, but here we go again.

I went for my 6-month checkup: 4 cavities. I say, "fix them all in one appointment."

He drills the first one. And drills. And drills. He ends up doing only two because if the time spent on the molar. Them he tells me to call if it causes any problems, and gives me his cell number. Uh oh.

For a couple of days it was good. Then it got sensitive.

Then it was better for a few days. I figured I'd let him know at my next appt. HE got sick and they cancelled. A few days later it got sore. This happened two nights in a row. I stopped chewing on that side. The next week I called the office. They were on vacation. Meh, I can take a bit of occasional soreness.

Yesterday it became a toothache. Today was worse. I'm eating Tylenol like candy, and I rarely take pain killers. This morning it hurt to chew a banana on the OPPOSITE side.

They worked me in this morning. One xray and he tells me he is referring me for a root canal. YAY!

The endodontist called and offered an appointment for next Monday. I said I'd take it if that was the earliest. The lady said they often have cancellations, then said, "wait. I have an appointment open for Thursday." I took it.

This afternoon she called back and offered an appt for tomorrow at 7:20am.

Good.

FTR I brush regularly and keep floss everywhere. I floss 3-4 times per day.
Because I said so.

You're getting older. Do you have good enamel on your teeth ? Do you have good bones ? Do you absorb enough calcium ?
Are there two more fillings to do ?
What does a filling cost in the US ? It's around AU$160 a tooth, for an uncomplicated filling here.

I had half a dozen removed last year and new dentures made. That cost me $2500 and that was a relatively good price.

Get better soon.

I'm on the lookout for a new dentist myself - got a little tired of all the add ons they tried to get me to agree to.

But you keep floss EVERYWHERE? EWWWW! TMI! :p

Isn't it possible to floss too much?

Apparently not.

GV: fillings vary, but average around $200.

The good news is I rarely need medical care.

The root canal was done in about 40 minutes. Now I have to get the crown replaced that was only a year old.:(

Ouch!

I had to see the Doc this morning - in and out in 33 minutes. It took longer to get my prescriptions. I too don't see the doc much - last visit to any kind medical doctor was 3 years ago.

I was expecting the ordeal to take at least 3 hours.

The root canal took about 40 minutes. $1047. I'm in the wrong business.

Digging around in someone's mouth all day is one of my visions of a personal hell.

Not sure I'd go through the schooling in order to be able to get the 1047 buckeroos.

Thank God I have Dental Insurance - aka Dental Pre-Payment plan....

The crown fixit will be another $500 or so , won't it ?
How much did it cost in the first place ?
I guess dental work doesn't come with a guarantee. Considering it's cost, that sucks.

When I had my half dozen bottom teeth removed for my new denture it cost $130 x 6 = $780. The dentist originally quoted me $160 per tooth but as they were easy to remove he discounted me. It took no longer than TEN minutes. I do subscribe to a benefits scheme that covers Dental work, that covered a lot of the cost.
