I'll ask this here too.

BTW.... What kojak said on sdugf about using linear for volume... That betrays every conventional rule of guitar electronics along with every rule of physics and biology there is about the subject of volume perception in humans.

He's lost his marbles, completely.

Got the RCA3 in there tonight with a new set of strings. Too bad the kids were already asleep. I'll try to give it a shot tomorrow.

By the way, this is the first time I've ordered from Addiction FX, and it was quick and right. I haven't gotten a new magnet since John Wymore called it quits.

Just as well, it takes a day or two for the pickup to settle into its new magnetic configuration after a magnet swap

Really? I thought that was just the old guard blewing smoke up our asses.

I put it in last night and gave it a quick test run this afternoon, and I was pretty happy. I think it might be 99% there, and that's good enough for me. I was surprised by the increased dynamics. It was much cleaner with the volume knob rolled back, and not appreciably quieter than the A4 at full volume.

It is definitely a step in the right direction on first go. You're the man, Ryan.

Nice, I'm glad you found something on the cheap that made you happy.

I wouldn't be so picky if I weren't trying to do something that shouldn't be possible. I'm running clean on the neck and full-on high gain in the bridge and switching only with my pickup selector on a single-channel amp. I'm keeping the boost on through the whole thing, and I think I finally got it sounding really good. I'll try to record something sloppy this weekend, but the best I have is a very old iPhone.

I finally took a couple of minutes tonight to finally get something recorded. Terrible quality, zero editing, one take through an iPhone into Voice Memos, but it's something.

Note that these two clips were recorded with exactly the same amp settings. I switched pickups only.

Also, I know it's a little bit out of time, and I screwed up the end of the dirty clip, and I'm not even sure I like the dirty tone that much, because it came out a little harsher in the upper mids than I was hearing in the room, but it serves at least as an example for the breadth of tones I can get at the flick of a switch.
