There's no need to be embarrassed, buddy.

With as often as Gibson has made little tweaks to their materials I'm surprised that they can keep up the changes.

Look at the stuff they don't advertise: like fretboard material.

Yeah a 2015 Custom has richlite fretboards WTF is that about ? Gibson doesn't make much of anything off the shelf with ebony anymore ? It says maple on the specs it just never registered in my brain until I got to the wood and saw. I was annoyed as hell when I found knots in my LTD neck (Indonisian) well there is a big ass knot in this SG, just lazy ,half-assed craftmanship. Less then 24 hours and the neck is pretty dry and smooth as silk , it absorbed the oil really quickly so I think a second coat is required just for duration.

While at NAMM I asked a Gibson representative about the Richlite fret boards. I was shocked when I got what seemed like an honest answer. He referenced the whole Lacey Act fiasco from a few years ago. He said after that, getting ebony was becoming such a pain in the ass that they got fed up and said screw it. They changed to Richlite at that point because it had the properties they wanted and no hassle.

Not saying I agree, but at least I didn't get the "superiority of the new material" speech that I expected.
