A Seymour defense attorney found himself in need of a lawyer of his own after he appeared to be intoxicated in court in Shelbyville.

According to a report from the Shelby County Sheriff's Department, Joseph M. Robertson had driven from Seymour to Shelby County for a hearing Monday.

During contempt of court proceedings, a witness said Robertson "almost ran her off the roadway on his way to the courthouse." A staff member of Shelby Superior Court 2 also accused him of touching her inappropriately on three different occasions and said he smelled of alcohol, the police report said.

Judge David Riggins found Robertson in contempt of court and Riggins requested the lawyer be tested for alcohol, the Shelbyville News reported.
