NFL Talk - 2008

NFL institutes fan code of conduct

Here are some of the individual tenets that will be addressed as part of the new code:

- Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, or illegal.

- Drunkenness and signs of alcohol impairment that result in irresponsible behavior.

- Foul or abusive language or obscene gestures.

- Interference with the progress of the game, including throwing objects onto the field.

- Failing to follow instructions of stadium personnel.

- Verbal or physical harassment of fans from the opposing team.

Fans will be made aware of the Code through publications, mailings and signs posted at all NFL stadiums.

Possible punishment in being banned from ALL NFL sporting events, not just the location where the offense was commited.

Maybe they can pass out opera glasses at the gates too.

They're just sucking all of the fun out of the game.

How about enforcing the players being verbally abusive to the fans?

Okay, and I want that all to apply to the players and staff. They should set the example.

The Eagles are going to be playing to an empty stadium by week 2.
Will it blend? That is the question.

This also looks like the same code the Chiefs brought out a few months ago. Looks like they were the test balloon for the NFL.
Will it blend? That is the question.

Most of those infractions are obviously wrong and already enforced by most stadiums. The first on that list and the last just seem like excuses to revamp what kind of fan attends games.

Whereas it is obviously wrong to physically assault the visiting team's fans, and already against the rules, "verbal harrasment" a.k.a giving them shit, is all part of the fun of the game. There is nothing funnier than when a visiting team's fan walks up the stairs while the sections on either side of them repeatedly chant "asshole." Those fans (that aren't complete assholes and have a sense of humor) get a kick out of it as well.

The biggest problem is the first one... unruly behvior? what other kind of behavior should there be at an NFL football game? Should I pull out my copy of National Geographic and read aloud to my fellow fans on third downs? How about I hum an overture from La Boheme after a touchdown?

When I was walking across the parking lot at The Linc with my Dolphins shirt on I was looking around for about 10 second to see who they were calling asshole before I realized it was me. Then me and the wife started cracking up.

Here's a big note to these rules:

"Event patrons are responsible for their conduct as well as the conduct of their guests and/or persons occupying their seats."

A couple of things to think about:

Someone could be sitting in company seats and they could cause problems for the company and their job future. Not that teams would do something against corporate dollars. Then again, good seats are easy to find a replacement.

You could sell tickets for a game though stub hub, a scalper, or a ticket agent (read legal scalper), have no idea who gets them, and be responsible for their behavior.
Will it blend? That is the question.

Thats actually a current rule for Eagles' season tickets. We have a strike on our account due to that rule... and some fucking asshole that I don't even know who decided to light up in the bathroom.

I cant figure it out. With the addition of Chad Pennington did The Dolphins just get better or worst? Did McCown look that bad in camp?
