Is it too late to rename it "Scroteus" instead? Because this thing is going to be the balls!
Someone should put that in their signature…

Lol thanks Chris.
Here's a better pic of the test piece. I've already built a few coats of tru oil onto it and it looks like my overall method should cause no problems whatsoever. ![]()

Got the neck sanded to 220grit. Gonna make sure it and the body are at least up to 600 or 800 before i start oiling them.
Finished the neck pickup route and started carving the lower horn of the top. ![]() ![]() Still got a long way to go. Also i decided to recess the control plate and carve the area around it just slightly. This is actually going to end up looking kinda sleek, like an oooold caddy
Nice shit dude, this is an awesome thread. Nice choice on recessing the control plate too, that's one of those things that I wish more people did. Like recessing the tremolo cavity cover. Things like that show A+ attention to detail.
well it's less the attention to detail and more the fact that I wouldn't be able to carve that area in an aesthetically pleasing way if I DIDN'T recess the control plate. So.... down it goes, and then I can sculpt that area nicely.
Also i sanded the neck up to 600 grit and felt pretty good about it so i went ahead and applied the danish oil/raw sienna colour coat. Totally popped the subtle flamey grain. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The tru oil on top of this is gonna look unreal. It's kinda hard to capture the real colour of the thing since it seems to dance around in the light depending on where you're standing, but it's a nice warm amber, just a touch lighter than the regular "vintage amber"

Why has it got country bumpkin pickups in the neck and bridge?
05-01-2015, 05:20 PM
Dear RALPH.
Please inform yourself before mouthing off and making yourself seem sillier than you are. The Pre B-1 (bridge pickup) is voiced to be a higher output, more round, fat sorta tele bridge pickup, more for blues and rock than country twang. The vintage mini-bucker is actually ceramic magnets, and is supposed to be an extremely articulate, and touch sensitive pickup that sits somewhere between a nice warm neck humbucker and a crisp, sweet, attack-y single coil. Ain't no country bumpkin here. these are going to be dishing out mean searing bluesy leads for daaaaaaaays.
