Proteus build thread (uber-tele)

Wait, the body alone was almost 7.5 pounds?

Are you telling me that canadians use pounds? WTF?

It was around 7 lbs. I specifically requested that weight range cuz I knew I'd be carving away a lot and I wanted the body to still have enough weight to balance nicely on a strap.

It'd be kinda shitty to go through all that trouble of carving a top and building the guitar only to have it neck dive on you.

Yeah I guess that makes sense.

I have only a tiny bit more work to do with power tools and then i'm onto hand-sanding and finessing the carve until it's ready for finishing.

So here is where we're at now.

Dunno how easy it is to see in this pic but around the top bout i contoured it so the belly cut sorta flows naturally around the bout and into the contoured neck heel and lower horn contour.

Here's a profile shot of that top bout

Ground down the raised sides of the vintage style bridge plate. Now it looks like a spaceship from the year 1981.

Pretty much finished all the power tool work on the body. Onto the hand sanding. Fuck.

Yeah, have fun with that. I'm so done with hand sanding after having hand sanded my wahs.

I already did the hard work with the power tools. This is just finessing, like I said.

Besides, it's wood, not metal.

got the carve as good as I was gonna get it.

Sanded away all the cross-grain sanding marks, got rid of all the little tiny nicks, scratches and dents on the top/bottom/sides, and started grainfilling the back.

Next up, I will mask the natural binding area, grainfill the top and sides, and then grainfill the binding area. Then sand up to 800 grit.

Then colour huge grin

Almost done grainfilling. Went full strength walnut filler on the back/sides and about. 4:1 mix of natural: walnut on the top so the grain patterns look a bit more like sand featiures underwater rather than crude oil spilled on the sea bed.
