Proteus build thread (uber-tele)
Best string trees I have ever used are the Graphtech Tusq XL ones , asides from they are black and match the hardware on my Tele they are permanently lubricated.

I have tusq string trees on my showmaster and they are indeed great looking/performing but since this is hardtail i don't really need the same kinda bulletproof performance. So it's definitely between these three. I'm leaning otwards barrel or roller personally.

I don't suppose anyone here has any wisdom to offer in terms of thinning and spraying tru-oil?

Have to find out what base the product is made from. Speaking of tru oil i mixed some with some leather dye yesterday. It worked rather well as a carrier for it. Gonna dot he shinobi neck/fingerboard in it as its to light in colour.

I looked and you can use mineral spirits to thin it out.....

it's a polymerized linseed oil base, mixed with mineral spirits. So yeah, mineral spirits can be used for thinning (and that's exactly what Birchwood Casey told me when I asked them)

The info I'm looking for more is the thinning ratio that would be ideal for spraying, and whether or not Naphtha works better for this particular application.

Well do it by sight. mix in some and stir it, then pull the stirring stick out and watch it run off the end. It should run off easily/

Thats how pops does it and he has been doing it for almost 60 years.
