Who doesn't love camping?
#21
We used to go camping when I was a kid. My Dad dragged the family up to the woods so he could hunt deer. Two parents and three kids in a popup camper, no running water or electricity and we had a makeshift outhouse. It was in the middle of nowhere, half the time he could barely get up the road to where we'd set up the camper. He actually rented the land from a farmer, it was such a remote area. Back then I was all about UFOs and Bigfoot, I was convinced that I was going to encounter something out there. That shit always happens in the remote woods in Wisconsin.

Looking back, I have some great memories of it. Especially curled up in the fetal position at night scared out of my mind because I heard a noise outside the flimsy canvas.

Haha I know it's not that. Just trying to find time when everyone is free is difficult. Gotta just do it and stop talking about it I guess.

Even though you haven't been camping in a while...do you ever find yourself in a sporting goods store and naturally gravitate towards the camping gear?

I do that all the time. I had enough vacuum food jars and Dinty Moore stew to feed Africa  for a year at one point.
Trust me, I'm a medical professional.

Doesn't it?

There was a Kodiak hunting excursion in Alaska a few years back that I wanted to go on. Camping, guns, the works.

Then when I was about to book everybody - they all backed out. I didn't wanna go by myself so I just stayed home that season and got addicted to porn.

Yes! The camping gear and the hunting gear/guns. My dad and I used to hunt a lot when I was a kid. Once I hit high school I was playing in a band and devoted all my free time to that. By the time I started college he and I both were getting big into watching football so when the band ended after graduating, we spent our weekends watching football. Now that VT generally pisses me off on Saturdays, I've been wanting to get back into hunting with him and now the idea of camping has started enticing me too. I dunno at some point I started to hate all of the complexity of the daily grind and the isolation that technology causes. I just want to sit around a camp fire with my buddies, shoot the shit, smoke cigars, whatever. If I may hippy it up for a second, I feel like I need to reconnect with the natural world around me.

I still bring my family camping at the same place I've been going since I was a kid.  We're not exactly out there in the wild, and we generally avoid the snowy months, but it's great to get outside with the dog and kayak.  Besides, when else can I play my guitanjo?

I don't care anything at all about camping.
