where an artist just finally clicks for you?
My mom is a die-hard Bruce Springsteen fan. She's probably seen him 15+ times in her life, and when I was growing up his catalog was always in heavy rotation. When The Rising came out, back when I was a wee lad of 11, I probably heard it a few times a week for many months because of how much driving we did. And perhaps because of that, I never really sought out his work on my own time.
But I put on Born to Run today, and it just clicked for me. It's an incredible album in every way, a blue collar equivalent to a magnum opus such as Purple Rain or Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV Part I. It's practically an emotional connection for me.
Have you ever had an artist that you're aware of for a long time but eventually just clicks for you? Who as it and why?

Nope.
Mainly because Springsteen sucks.

Fuck off, Devi. The Boss rocks my panties off. I mean, so does Fu, but damn...you don't hear me hating on the Deftones, do you?
Even if he is a goddamned gun-hating commie, Rosalita (Come Out Tonight) and Glory Days are great songs with good energy, even if Glory Days is more of a drunken stumble than Rosalita's bounce.
I never really got stoner rock/doom until recently, and even then, not all of it works for me. I like Down's first album but IV mostly sounds like a noisy dirge with few hooks.

I just...can't stand Springsteen's voice, dude.
Granted, there may be a song or two out there that I'll like from his catalog - but I'm not exactly seeking them out
Besides, if I can't hive Jordan shit, why am I here?

I'm with Devi -
Yep - the man has lots of fans. Respect is due there.
But - Wasn't excited about Springsteen's music in 1985, not excited about it now.

About 10 years ago, started getting into The Police. Sting is one of those shall I say... self-important twat, but a hell of a talent.

I've just always loved music.
I honestly tend to like more than I dislike.
Everything from Talking Heads to Fu Manchu. Deftones and Korn to Berlin and Blondie. John Mellencamp to Siouxsie and The Banshees.
I try not to approach music with any preconceived notions.

Fucking Whitechapel dude.
I never really heard anything that really hooked me from them...
...then I bought Our Endless War on a recommendation I got from a fellow metalhead I met in FYE.
Holy shit. That changed everything. Talk about a massive guitar tone, and some of the most brutal guttural vocals ever, topped off with a metric fuckton of groove.

I guess the only thing I've recently got into that I never liked before would be Slipknot.
I was alwats a big fan if Mushroomhead...and technically speaking, you can't like both bands. But a few years back, I bought Corey Taylor's book 'A Funny Thing Happened On The Way to Heaven' and I enjoyed his writing style and the way that he was able to craft a story. Granted, he said some things I didn't agree with - but his capabilities as an author are without question.
I guess that's part of why I've warmed up to his band as I've reverted back to an angry teenager.
