Is the Floyd Rose bridge obsolete?
I say yes - sort of.
Its not that its still not a viable design - In certain applications its still the only way to go (along with Kahler). I'm thinking Les Pauls and Jacksons with the tilt back headstock and a string pull that is not straight. Say what you will, but they are pretty complicated designs - but when set up properly, they are deliver what is promised.
Heck, other obsolete designs still work well. Lots of people still love the original Fender vibrato bridge from the 50s.
Floyd himself designed an 'improvement' in the 90s, after the advent of the Wilkinson nut and locking tuners.
Too bad it used a lot of cast parts. I think Fender missed an opportunity when it brought back the non-fine tuner Floyd on the Guthrie Charvel.
A milled version (and revised design) of the above would have opened a new market to people wanting to upgrade their American Standards/Plus guitars.

You can't pry the Floyd out of my cold ,dead hands , no way ! Sorry you think a Kahler is equal to a Floyd too. I have a few guitars with them setup properly and a Floyd is the most stable guitar I own. The RR V will hold tune for months left on it's own hanging on the stand .I always replace TOM and Strat/Tele bridges with a Babicz just because. Not much else to say about it really but I will type nonsensical and insulting things just to say them if it is required ?

I didn't say equal - The downfall of the Kahler is not locking at the bridge. I'm not so keen on string rollers either, but its part of the design. That's just me - others do like them over the Floyd.
Due to the string lock and fine tuners - its one of the designs that work with headstock whose string pull is not in a straight line.

Um the question. The floyd rose although works like a charm i think in design is primitive.

Well i haven't thought about it that much. I like the idea of using bearings like ibanez have done. I guess the problem is with guitars is that by nature you can never really have a guitar that will stay in tune. When i break it down i see wood and strings. Wood warps and strings stretch.
So we just make do and hope it stays in tune during the song.

You need a tempered guitar neck with an auto adjusting Truss Rod and Bridge.

Gibson is working on this in their secret research lab. This is the only known photo of the prototype:
