LesStrat's Computer Saga: Episode 4378
Can't you just disable the firewall while you're doing the deed? Of course, I'd make sure it was disconnected from your network.

I ordered a laptop in the wee hours of morning (mourning?). It was a cyber week deal. Enough of this nonsense.

I’ll have to figure out how to go in and disable all the winblows spyware once the new machine arrives. Meanwhile my friend who worked on the beast last year has it. I’m beginning to think that it is a combination of windows being corrupted from a failed update, installation a new, large recording packages/plugins, and a possible motherboard failure. I looked it up: the beast was shipped to me on 2/11/2011. It’s probably overdue for replacement.

The problem is that the firewall IS disabled. The tool won’t function with the firewall off. I cannot get the beast to START the firewall.

Question: where do you guys purchase RAM upgrades?

I inquired of Dell tonight whether I could upgrade my order to increase the RAM and was informed that the units are preconfigured and that the configurations are determined by the marketing department.

I know that I upgraded the RAM in my PC when I ordered it in 2011 (and again a year or so later w/3rd party chips). Now they say that I cannot do so. Odd. You’d think that they’d want the money. I’d prefer that they spent time installing more hardware instead of loading McAfee onto the system.

The last I bought was from Crucial. Going on nearly 5 years.

There should be specs that tell you how much Ram the computer can use. Is it the same as what is being offered ?
I don't think there's anything in Warranty's that say you can't upgrade your Ram with third party products. I buy my Ram online from computer suppliers I used to physically do business with when I lived in Melb.
It's really cheap on Aliexpress.

The laptop is capable of handling 16GB and it comes with 8GB.

New plan if the old beast can be restored:

Install windows only, then install recording software and use it to record the band. No internet use, no additional software. No need for windblows updates. Only recording.

New laptop is up and running, but I need to get rid of McAfee.

What antivirus programs do you recommend?

I used AVG free for years. Then I switched to Avast! free.
