I ordered a laptop in the wee hours of morning (mourning?). It was a cyber week deal. Enough of this nonsense.
I’ll have to figure out how to go in and disable all the winblows spyware once the new machine arrives. Meanwhile my friend who worked on the beast last year has it. I’m beginning to think that it is a combination of windows being corrupted from a failed update, installation a new, large recording packages/plugins, and a possible motherboard failure. I looked it up: the beast was shipped to me on 2/11/2011. It’s probably overdue for replacement.
The problem is that the firewall IS disabled. The tool won’t function with the firewall off. I cannot get the beast to START the firewall.

Because I said so.
