Vintage amp restoration and Beyond
Aldi were selling Noise level/ Db meters cheap. I grabbed one and tried it out on a few things including this amp.
Full blast it revolved between 115 Db and 120 Db with really momentary peaks hitting 130Db. :wwe:
I need to wear some sort of damping if I use this loud.

My chainsaw came in at 115 Db.

LMFAO! Those type of amps were never 100W like they claim. Especially yours. What does your actual wattage come out to? Wouldn't take but a second to find out. 160-180? We may have already had this conversation. Can't remember at the moment.

I'd love to slam the front end of that monster and let it breathe a little fire. We are good at 125-130db for few minutes right? Maybe 5?

I estimate it at that 160-180 watts. The higher plate voltage comes in there. I really haven't found a lot of time to give it a good workout. I must do it.

The 2203's that it's based on would've been 120 watts at least. My first stack, a locally made Strauss. NS 120. A quad of 6CA7's pumping 120 watts.
2203's, a Quad of EL34's. Very similar tubes.
And of course with a Quad of KT88's, it's got to be 140 watts at normal plate voltages.

I took a little break, but I guess it's as good a time as any to finish it up, with the end of the world going in and all.
It'll be a 60's style 18W with Trem. Input one is pretty tame. Just a good old el-84, marshall style tone, with trem. Input 2, which is also foot switchable, is a more aggressive, cascading gain. It uses one side of V1 to add an extra gain stage for a little more modern feel and tone.

It's already halfway done, and I've been procrastinating on it for over a year now, but most of the decisions and build idea came from GV's mind. And if you noticed the 4 Jacks on the front, you'll know it has one more little trick up its sleeve. Lol!
So, when it's all said done, this amp will wear the nameplate of, The Golden Vulture. I've got time to do it now, buddy.

Edit:

Hah! Everything I need to finish and even build more is in this thread, the Windsor mod thread, the mod bug thread, and several emails. Let's do this!

Haven't been to work on it yet. We are in the process of buying a house and anything non essential is packed up right now. I'll get it to it eventually. Its first on my projects list when we get moved.
