Hi!
I am new to TMR Zoo and I was just curious to know:
"How much does a DVD cost in your local area?"

I have heard that the prices are too much in Europe and USA. I belong to Pakistan and because of certain piracy issues the DVD prices are very less.
An original DVD can be bought for PKR 120 (Pakistani Rupees) which = US$1.5
Other DVDs can be bought for PKR40 even which = 50 Cents

There are also some DVDs which are imported/smuggled from China, Thailand, etc. These DVDs/Blue Ray Discs cost PKR120 = US$1.5 and contain more than 20 Hollywood Movies.

Are such DVDs available in your countries too?

With this decade drawing to a close in a couple of weeks, I started thinking, we've tried to post our favorite genres of all time. Now let's shoot for the best overall movies of the past decade.

I'll start with what I think are my top 10. Before you kill me, I will note that noticably missing are any of the Lord of the Ring movies, only because I'm not into that stuff and I don't particularly like Peter Jackson.

Also, it may not be often that I agree with the Academy Awards, but there's a reason that comedies never win Movie of the Year. While some of you may think that 40 Year Old Virgin or The Hangover may go on the list, I had a lot of trouble putting a comedy in place of some of these selections. Feel free to disagree.

1. The Departed
2. The Dark Knight
3. Gladiator
4. Ray
5. There Will Be Blood
6. Cinderella Man
7. Mystic River
8. Almost Famous
9. Gangs of New York
10. Kill Bill Vol I
There are so many very, very good movies that this was not easy, and I know I missed a couple that should probably be on here, but give it a try and see what you come up with.

This weekend at New York's Comic-Con, MTV News presented its picks for the Greatest Movie Badasses of All Time. Coming in at number one was none other than renegade cop badass, Dirty Harry, as played by Clint Eastwood, followed by cinema's greatest female action hero, "Alien" badass, Ellen Ripley, as played by Sigourney Weaver.

Last month, MTV News began the epic search by asking accomplished filmmakers, actors and fans who they think should be crowned 'MTV's Greatest Movie Badass of All Time.' Resident MTV News movie expert, Josh Horowitz, hosted a panel at New York's Comic-Con on Friday night and unveiled the list, alongside celebrity panelists Method Man, Judah Friedlander ("30 Rock"), James Toback (writer/director), and Chuck Nice ("Best Week Ever").

Here's who made the cut, listed by rank:

 1. Dirty Harry - "Dirty Harry"
 2. Ellen Ripley - "Alien/Aliens"
 3. John McClane - "Die Hard"
 4. Mad Max - "Mad Max"
 5. Walker - "Point Blank"
 6. Sarah Connor - "Terminator"
 7. Pike Bishop - "The Wild Bunch"
 8. Khan Noonien Singh - "Star Trek"
 9. Boba Fett - "Star Wars"
 10. John J. Rambo - "First Blood'

Clint Eastwood speaks with MTV News about Dirty Harry's inclusion

Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry character burst onto the scene in 1971 in "Dirty Harry," unhesitant and non-repentant when it came to killing a criminal in cold blood. This badass hates the system, despises red tape, and has a strong affinity toward his gun, using it to dispense his own brand of justice. The character was seen again in "Magnum Force," "The Enforcer," "Sudden Impact," and "The Dead Pool."

"Alright thanks. You made a good choice," said Eastwood on being chosen. "Now get out ... I told you to get out. Don't hang around goddamnit!"

Sigourney Weaver on Ripley making the list

MTV News also had the honor of speaking with Sigourney Weaver, who, as Ellen Ripley in "Alien," "Aliens," "Alien 3," and "Alien: Resurrection," elicited shrieks of joy and terror from millions of die-hard fans worldwide.

"Wow. Thank you. I think Ripley would be very pumped and I want to congratulate my fellow badasses," said actress Sigourney Weaver on the nod. "I think we should have a big blowout badass party. You know? Bring your own flamethrower? There's just one thing, maybe let's not tell the alien that he didn't make the top ten. He's sort of touchy and the convention center is a big place. There are a lot of air vents and things like that so I don't know...If you need me ... who you gonna call? Right? Thanks again."

Bruce Willis on the new "Badasses"

Bruce Willis, upon hearing about "Die Hard" badass John McClane making the top three, had the following to say to MTV News. "Thank you all so much. I have to say though that my badass days are behind me. I'm sitting here eating donuts. I'm impressed by the new badasses. That Matt Damon? That guy can pull a guy's spine out of his body and show it to him in one move!"

Mel Gibson Reacts to Mad Max as #4

When asked about being included as the #4 "Badass," Mel Gibson told MTV News "I'm the fourth baddest badass! I'm glad you told me [the first three] so I can avoid them [Clint, Sigourney, and Bruce] now. I think I can take Sigourney. It's amazing to think that something 30 years old can still have some ring about it. And ring is the operative word for badasses. My badass has hemorrhoids. My badass needs a rest. You have my heartfelt thanks."

In addition to fans, who voted via MTV.com, contributing to the list was a badass group of celebrities in their own right. The experts included Edgar Wright (director, "Shaun of the Dead"), Frank Darabont (director, "The Shawshank Redemption"), Rose McGowan (actress, "Grindhouse"), Richard Kelly (writer/director, "Donnie Darko"), David Goyer (co-writer, "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight"), John August (writer, "Go"), Diablo Cody (writer, "Juno"), and James Gunn (director, "Slither").

MTV News put together its own top ten list, garnering submissions from Josh Horowitz (Movies Editor), Larry Carroll (Senior Writer), Brian Jacks (Senior Producer) and the irrepressible Kurt Loder.

I went to this extravaganza last night (see column from Miami Herald below). It was amazing.

The cameras were mostly at field level, but on occasion we got a slightly elevated view. It really was like being right on the field, but the one minor problem was that you coudn't see everything and on occasion the play was hard to follow because of the congestion on the line of scrimmage.

The clarity was spectacular and the 3D was very impressive. It wasn't typical movie 3D where every once in a while something would seem to come off the screen (but the graphics, when displayed and the confetti at the end seemed to jump off the screen). This was more like ViewMaster (remember those??) 3D that moved. And it was the entire game, including the halftime show.

Very limited commercials, and the ones that we did see all had something to do with 3D.

It was very different sitting in a movie theater and being able to talk in normal voices and jump up and down and cheer or scream for something to happen. Total bonus that my team won!!! GO GATORS!!!!
My only two complaints were that they didn't show the game info nearly enough (down, yards, game clock), and the announcers (Kenny Albert and Tim Ryan) were annoying.

Overall, a tremendous experience that I was very excited to be part of.

GAINESVILLE — Until now, only the Florida Gators have known what it's like to have Tim Tebow screaming in your face during a football game.

But fans will finally get that experience, too, for the BCS Championship Game betwen UF and Oklahoma on Jan. 8. The game will be broadcast in high-definition 3D in about 80 movie theaters across the country, the company 3ality Digital announced Tuesday.

Just watch out for the spittle.

"We think this gives viewers an opportunity to get an incredibly lifelike and realistic view of their favorite sports teams," said David Modell, chairman of 3ality Digital and the son of former Baltimore Ravens owner Art Modell. "We will put on a show that will please both sets of fans."

In South Florida, the closest theater will be the Rave Motion Pictures St. Lucie West 14 in Port St. Lucie, near the New York Mets' spring training complex. It will also be shown in Bradenton, Fernandina Beach, Melbourne and Pensacola.

Tickets will cost anywhere from $18-25, and it marks the first time the public can watch a live sporting event in 3D.

The broadcast is being produced through a partnership between 3ality Digital, the Fox network, Sony, Cinedigm Digital and RealD, which has provided 3D projectors to Cinedigm's movie theaters.

"As boxing fans once gathered at local theaters to see heavyweight title matches ... the new technology will give audiences another reason to head to the theater," Michael Lewis, CEO of RealD, said in a statement.

Tuesday's announcement came less than two weeks after 3ality Digital used the NFL's Chargers-Raiders game as a test-run for the 3D technology. Invitation-only showings were held in theaters in New York City, Boston and Los Angeles, and despite a few technical glitches, the broadcast received rave reviews.

The Boston Globe wrote that the "technology shows enormous potential.

"Once you adjusted to the glasses, which didn't take long, the visuals were stunning, the picture sharp, and when the graphics came up on the screen, you felt as if you could reach out and pluck them off with your fingers."

Though there was little drama in the Chargers' 34-7 win on Dec. 4, The Los Angeles Times noted that "the novelty of the 3D made it hard to take my eyes off the screen."

The NFL executives were especially impressed, including Commissioner Roger Goodell, who attended the New York screening.

"It was fantastic," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Wednesday. "You could see the passion of the players. There were a number of instances where the ball literally was coming right at you and you want to put up your hands to make a catch. It took the viewing experience to another level."

Modell said his three-year-old company will have anywhere from five to 10 3D cameras at the BCS Championship Game at Dolphin Stadium, separate from the cameras Fox will use for its broadcast.

The 3D broadcast will also have its own announcing crew (yet to be determined), graphics and presentation.

Fox and 3ality Digital have worked on this agreement for several months, and it came into fruition after the success of the Raiders-Chargers game.

McCarthy said the NFL is looking into the 3D movie theater experience as a potential business model for the future, where fans can pay a fee to watch a day's worth of NFL games in 3D at the local movie theater.

NFL executives will be watching this BCS Championship Game intently.

"This was an initial test, which certainly passed with flying colors," McCarthy said. "You could get a sense of where the future of television is, and it was tremendous."
