Steaks Just Keep Rising at New York’s Old Homestead

Posted by TMR Newswire On April - 10 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

With the economy forcing restaurants to cut costs (and portions) to survive, Greg and Marc Sherry, owners of the iconic Old Homestead Steakhouse at 56 Ninth Ave. in New York City’s fashionable Meatpacking District, have cooked up an antidote to the recession: expand and spend. The result? A growing empire stretching from coast to coast.

A series of brash moves (or marketing genius?) has positioned Old Homestead as a sought after brand. The timing couldn’t be better, with the restaurant marking the 75th anniversary under Sherry family ownership. Most celebrate with a cake; the Sherry brothers open another restaurant, and then some. Happy beer-thirty my friends. Only being Wednesday, it feels much later in the week in my head. Maybe it’s the fact that I haven’t had a job in a month, the increased volume of job interviews I’ve had of late, or another factor altering my perception, but I feel physically and mentally drained this hump day.

As Friday inches closer, as well as the hit counter on my blog getting closer to 15,000 unique hits (which I assume is good?) I feel it’s time to sit down and write a review of Sierra Nevada’s winter seasonal, Celebration. Read the rest of this entry »

Sud Savant: Samuel Adams – Boston 26.2 Brew

Posted by Joel R. Kolander On April - 10 - 2012 ADD COMMENTS

Drinkers, today I am blessed with a special treat of sorts. I have been gifted a bottle of Samuel Adams Boston 26.2 Brew. Since I live in the Midwest and the Boston 26.2 Brew (what a mouth full!) is only in Boston and only “available at race-related events, as well as pubs and restaurants along the Marathon route and around Boston,” I am very stoked to be sampling this brew. A HUGE thanks goes out to my east coast friend that made this possible. With the Boston Marathon only a week away, it’s time to review this very limited brew. Read the rest of this entry »

With the clamor that this brew has created in the Chicago suburbs, I wasn’t about to leave Chicago (on a recent trip) without seeking out a bottle for myself. According to the label, “Red Eye Porter is the first of our 15 archive recipes we will brew to celebrate out 15th anniversary. Red Eye debuted in the Spring of 2009 and quickly won acclaim from the public and press alike. We brewed it a second time, which was the last time we made it, in the fall of 2009. Since then it has easily become the most requested beer for us to bring back (like almost every day). So we hope you enjoy the start of our fun 2012 project.” Read the rest of this entry »

Spring is upon us in North Texas, and with sunny skies, cool breezes and the agreeable company of my wife, I enjoyed a day running errands, seeing The Hunger Games, and cracking open some craft beer on the patio.

Today’s selection from Denver’s Great Divide Brewing, is Hop Fresh, a pale ale sporting a mid-ranged ABV around 6.1%. It seemed like something to contrast the malt forward brews I have been drinking recently. Read the rest of this entry »
