The last time I recall seeing Helen Mirren in a movie was Red with Bruce Willis and Mary-Louise Parker. Helen Mirren returns to the big screen as a spy yet again in The Debt but this is a totally different movie, there are no laughs in this flick. This intensely serious thriller benefits from an incredibly well written script and phenomenal acting. Jesper Christensen, Mr. White from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace steals every scene he is in, delivering an Oscar worthy performance. Read the rest of this entry »

Movie Review: Cowboys and Aliens Lives Up to The Hype

Posted by Bruce Owens On November - 19 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Cowboys and Aliens is a film that didn’t get panned as a bad film, the rub on this film is, it didn’t live up to the hype. Let’s be honest anytime Harrison Ford steps on the screen people are expecting the next Indian Jones. Also with the star power behind this film there is no way the studio couldn’t promote the hell out of it. The first big name tied to this movie is Jon Favreau, the director of Ironman and Ironman 2.

The studio gave Favreau plenty of budget for special effects and star power. Daniel Craig plays Ford’s nemesis in this film. Craig also clashes with Keith Carradine who realistically plays the town’s no nonsense sheriff. I was pleased to see Walton Goggins, Shane Vendrell from TV’ The Shield cast as an outlaw in the film, he shows up around halfway through the film. Rounding out the cast as eye-candy is Olivia Wilde and Mad Men’s Abigail Spencer, both are a bit more than eye-candy in the film delivering great performances. With star power like this there is no way the studio couldn’t bombard us with ads. Thus the hype.  Read the rest of this entry »

Jason Bateman has truly sustained his comic career. Some would say it is his mastery of his craft, others would credit his choice of projects. The”Change-Up” would be a valid argument for both schools.

The “Change-Up” has a great comedy ensemble cast. Ryan Reynolds, 40 year Old Virgin alum Leslie Mann and the incredibly funny and hot Olivia Wilde round out the cast. The script is a well traveled road, two people swap bodies to find out the grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the fence. Read the rest of this entry »

Let me start off by saying anyone who gives this movie a bad review is simply an idiot. This is Fast Five not Fast One, the audience knows what they are walking into. There is nothing surprising in this story, no twists to the plot. Fast Five is as formula as it gets, and that is good.

The film has everything you expect from a Fast and Furious franchise. Fast cars, awesome chase scenes and half naked women. What I didn’t expect was the amount of gun play in this film. I think it is turned up a notch. Read the rest of this entry »
