Movie Review: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Trailer)

Posted by Joe Viglione On December - 21 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

With The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo director David Fincher has created something vastly different from Panic Room and The Social Network, perhaps more like his murder classic Se7en, only drawn out in slow motion double-time. It is a dark thriller chock full of mystery, a whodunit cloaked in a dizzying list of names, and plot twists that are unexpected, perfect for keeping the viewer’s attention. It’s quite possibly Fincher’s best film and a very obvious tribute to the works of Alfred Hitchcock. Read the rest of this entry »

Movie Review: Mission Impossible 4 – Ghost Protocol (Trailer)

Posted by Joe Viglione On December - 16 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Since they blow the Kremlin up in the trailer  it’s not a spoiler to say that the movie version of a  9/11 moment for Russia is a great premise for filmgoers yearning for the 60′s plot that Mad Magazine did so well exploiting – Spy vs Spy, America vs Russia…classic enemies that can be friends, as long as they keep the cold war limited to high octane films.  With extravagant  I Max cameras giving the viewer breathtaking worlds, Ghost Protocol is eye candy that keeps you glued to your seat.  It’s an old, forgotten formula of holding an audience’s attention with clever twists, creative imagination and a dash of anticipation. Set in Moscow, Dubai, Mumbai…as certainly as a soundstage in Canada…half the fun is the escapism, the suspension of reality…and not wasting time figuring out which piece of film was made where. TMRZoo Finally “Reviews” Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1

Posted by Joe Viglione On November - 27 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

All due respect to my colleague by Cletus P. Stillwater, Jr and his November – 14 – 2011 “preview” of Breaking Dawn from the Twilight Series, the film does have its moments.  Yes, it is a “chick flick” and, no – Cletus – confirmed bachelors don’t flock to this…not yet, at least…perhaps when they run out of storyline at the end of the next film they can have Peter Facinelli (he of the film Supernova and Dr. Fitch Cooper of  the Nurse Jackie TV show) start re-confirming the bachelors in his office. Dr. Carlisle Cullen is the better actor in this flick and, unfortunately, his role is relegated to that of almost a cameo.  And the half-joking aside, there is some homo eroticism in this film as Robert Pattinson sucks the blood out of a number of good-looking guys before they murder women.  He…and Bella …justify the “feeding frenzy” – Bella telling her new husband to think of all the lives he’s saved!   Which leads us to believe Bella is merely Pattinson’s beard…note the love scenes where the vampire is uncomfortable making love to a woman; that his preferred conjugal practice is sucking…- just noting this for the mature members of the audience who have to do as Laura Nyro suggested in Barbara Streisand’s “Stoney End” and “read between the lines.” Read the rest of this entry »

The last time I recall seeing Helen Mirren in a movie was Red with Bruce Willis and Mary-Louise Parker. Helen Mirren returns to the big screen as a spy yet again in The Debt but this is a totally different movie, there are no laughs in this flick. This intensely serious thriller benefits from an incredibly well written script and phenomenal acting. Jesper Christensen, Mr. White from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace steals every scene he is in, delivering an Oscar worthy performance. Read the rest of this entry »
