Posted by Cletus P. Stillwater, Jr. On June - 30 - 2011 8 COMMENTS

It looks like Robert Pattinson is getting ready to give us another theatrical treatment of a piece of literature. Unlike the Twilight series this book actually isn’t based on a piece of mindless rubbish. The movie next on Patterson’s executioner block is Don DeLillo’s Cosmopolis. Read the rest of this entry »

Blu Ray Review: The Eagle – Unrated

Posted by Bruce Owens On June - 26 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

It has been a while since I enjoyed a period war movie as much as I enjoyed the Eagle. Set in England in the 1300s the film has an almost sci-fi like plot to it. The plot is peppered with themes that seem as if they could fit into a Klingon storyline on Star Trek TNG. Our Chief Film Critic Joe Viglione also picked up a Star Trek vibe when he reviewed the theatrical release (Joe’s Review). Read the rest of this entry »

Yesterday news broke that Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church would be picketing the funeral of Jackass star Ryan Dunn. As soon as the news broke Jackass fans worldwide responded and the reactions might be a little more than what Fred Phelps was looking for. Read the rest of this entry »

Blu-ray Review: The Adjustment Bureau

Posted by Bruce Owens On June - 20 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

The Adjustment Bureau threw me for a loop. The previews and even the cover of the disk show Matt Damon racing through the streets of Manhattan. The premise Jason Bourne does New York pops into your head. The action scenes in the trailer…are just about the only action scenes in the movie.

Lack of action aside The Adjustment Bureau is a very well put together movie. This love story disguised as an action flick is actually pretty good. The cast is brilliant including Mad Men star and Boston native John Slattery as Damon’s nemesis. There are also a bunch of cameos in the film that only a star of Matt Damon’s magnitude could draw. In what could be deemed a preview for her upcoming leaked sex tape Jennifer Lopez had a nip slip this week. the wardrobe malfunction happened at a private photo shoot which makes us wonder if these pictures were “leaked” on purpose.

While J Lo has no need for additional publicity or fame; this may be her way of controlling how her nude body is perceived by her fans. We reported last month that her ex-husband won a court ruling to release private intimate videos of the superstar. We still do not know if the videos are XXX in nature, but the buzz is this is a sextape. Read the rest of this entry »

Mila Kunis and Mark Walberg were on location in Somerville, Mass just outside of Boston last night. TMRZoo was there. For those of you not familiar with the area, Somerville is at the opposite end of the subway line from Mark’s birthplace in Dorchester. To put this in perspective, Gone Baby Gone and The Departed are South Boston/Dorchester flicks. Somerville/Cambridge is more along the lines of Good Will Hunting and The Social Network. TMR Movie Review: SUPER 8

Posted by Joe Viglione On June - 14 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

With perhaps the most spectacular train wreck in film history, director J.J.Abrams and producer Steven Spielberg have all the elements for an all-time Science Fiction classic. Alas, in attempting to reach serious Sci-Fi fans and children, by wanting to be all things to all people, the movie tends to dissipate by serving two masters.

According to BoxOfficeMojo.com “Distributor Paramount Pictures’ exit polling indicated that 71 percent of Super 8‘s audience was over 25 years old and 56 percent was male”, which, I believe, proves my point. The June 4th critics screening – on a weekend when the June 3rd passing of actor James Arness was announced – was eerie as SUPER 8 has more elements from the Gunsmoke actor’s iconic Sci-Fi role as “The Thing” (From Another World) than Spielberg’s E.T. or Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. It’s too bad that Arness didn’t make a guest appearance in this…Kyle Chandler (TV’s Early Edition; films The Day The Earth Stood Still and King Kong) plays Jackson Lamb (shades of John Cusack as Jackson Curtis in 2012) with veteran actor Bruce Greenwood also in for some of the fun…the vets holding up an array of new faces, which seems to be the formula these days…and a good one for establishing new actors via Sci-Fi vehicles…think Christopher Reeve. We all remember Blue Crush, the movie that launched Kate Bosworth and Michelle Rodriguez into the limelight. Tomorrow the sequel Blue Crush 2 comes to us on blu-ray. Blue Crush brings us to the beaches of South Africa. This is a welcome departure from the typical Australian, California and Hawaii surfer movie locations.

The photography is stunning, the film captures the sprawling landscapes of Africa. The surf scenes are also beautifully captured.
The audio gets the benefit of a pumping soundtrack. The surf footage also gets the benefit of the 5.1 DTS-HD sound. The pumping bass brings you into these beach parties. Read the rest of this entry »

Sanctum directed by Alister Grierson and executively produced by James Cameron is visually stunning. Originally shot in 3D the film beautifully transfers to blu-ray. Shot on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia Sanctum brings to the big screen stunning images of down under.

Please don’t take this to mean Sanctum is all rainbows and puppy dogs. This thriller has a dark and mature plot. The films main charaters Richard Roxburgh as Frank and Rhys Wakefield as Josh make some life on the line decisions that are mind blowing. These are situations that make you ask yourself “if I was put to the test could I do that?”. Read the rest of this entry »
