The 2008 NFL season is bordering on insanity. The games are terrible, and even worse, The House cannot pick an accurate week worth a damn. The members emerged victorious for the fifth time this season posting 8 wins to the House’s 7. The Madden 09 Xbox 360 simulation continued it’s domination with 9 correct picks, extending it’s season total lead over the House and members. The House now only has 2 weekly wins on the season, to the membership’s 5, with 1 tie.
The results to-date are:
* | The House | Madden Sim | Members |
Week 8: | 7-7 | 9-5 | 8-6 |
2008 Overall: | 60-56 | 73-43 | 66.5-49.5 |
.
The Challenge
The House’s new drink must be 7 & 7 since that seems to be the only record it can post these days. One terrible week and the House could be sitting at 500 for the first time ever this late in the season… all the more reason to scrap the NFL.
Only one game was disagreed on by the collective membership this week, and the members guessed it correctly. It was the Monday night contest, and the House selected the Indianapolis Colts to hand the Tennessee Titans their first loss of the 2008 season. It didn’t happen. It was quite the opposite as the Titans lit it up in the second half and further reinforced themselves as the class of the NFL and the head of almost every power ranking list out there.
Since the House was beaten, we have a DVD prize pack to award AND a game ball. This week, I think I’ll award them both to the same member since only one member led the pack in week 8. Member Bablyn tallied 11 correct picks out of 14 and has earned a Nerf Pro Grip Football and a few DVDs, inlcuding one recent release. Nice work.
Tune back in on Thursday morning to once again agree or disagree with the House’s NFL week 9 picks and predictions.
The League
It was business as usual in week 8, with another handful of crazy upsets. There only seems to be three givens this season… Tennessee wins and Detroit and Cincinnati losses. Everything else appears to be up for grabs. Oh, and the fact that the Giants turn into supermen in the second half of the fourth quarter in every single one of their games. Give it a rest guys.
The Chargers, Colts, Jaguars and Vikings continue to disappoint. Stick a fork in the Vikings, but the other teams still have time to rebound… but not much more time.
Yeah, I got nothing else. I’m not dried out from (part 1 of) game 5 of the World Series yet.
Fantasy Land
Three of the top five performances came in losing efforts again. Last week the running backs were the top performers, but the QBs have taken control of most of the top 5 spots this week.
The top week 8 fantasy numbers were:
Brian Westbrook
Running Back – Philadelphia Eagles
In 27-14 win over the Atlanta Falcons
– 22 carries for 167 yards, 2 TDs. 6 catches for 42 yards.
David Garrard
Quarterback – Jacksonville Jaguars
In 23-17 loss to the Cleveland Browns
– 25/42 for 283 yards, 2 TDs. 7 carries for 59 yards.
Drew Brees
Quarterback – New Orleans Saints
In 37-32 win over the San Diego Chargers
– 30/41 for 339 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INT.
Philip Rivers
Quarterback – San Diego Chargers
In 37-32 loss to the New Orleans Saints
– 25/40 for 341 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT.
Roddy White
Wide Receiver – Atlanta Falcons
In 27-14 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles
– 8 catches for 113 yards, 2 TDs.
