NFL Week 13 Recap and “Beat the House” Results

NFL logoDo my eyes deceive me? Is that a House win I see? I believe it is. By a score of 11 wins to 10, The House beat the collective membership for only the third time this season. The Madden 09 Xbox 360 simulation had it’s worst week of the season by only picking 4 games out of 16 correctly and falling into last place in the season total column after leading the way for the first half of the season. The House now has 3 weekly wins on the season, to the membership’s 9, with 1 tie… and only four more weeks to go. Let’s do this!

The results to-date are:

* The House Madden Sim Members
Week 13: 11-5 4-12 10-6
2008 Overall: 104-87 103-88 118.5-72.5

The Challenge
Five House picks were disagreed with in week 13. In a rare event, The House was correct on three of them.

The House winning picks were Philly over Arizona, Kansas City over Oakland and Denver over the New York Favres. The House was wrong with Green Bay over Carolina and, yep you guessed it, the Minnesota pick.

If you’ve been reading these wrap-ups weekly, you’d know that the House has had a very difficult time selecting Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings games correctly. Going into Sunday night, the House had 11 wins. After the Minnesota and Jacksonville prime-time games, the House still only had 11 wins. The Jacksasota jinx strikes again!

12 picks ruled the roost this week, and four members tied with that total. The House was not beaten, so the DVDs stay locked up in the TMR safe. We do, however, offer a game ball weekly.

game ballSince he hasn’t won yet this year, but still resides in the top 15 on the leaderboard, spl receives this week’s game ball and is awarded a Nerf Pro Grip Football.

Tune back in on Thursday morning to once again agree or disagree with the House’s NFL week 14 picks and predictions.

The League
We’ve all heard the expression “There’s no place like home” close a million times. In week 13, there was no place like away. Five, and I will repeat it… only 5 home teams won their games this weekend. Since Dallas and Philly won on Thursday and Houston won on Monday, only two home teams won their games on Sunday… Tampa and Minnesota. So much for home field advantage.

Three Thanksgiving games, twelve on Sunday and the typical Monday nighter all featuring some big November match-ups, and the biggest story of the weekend was still about a certain jackass who shot himself in the leg. We’ve all heard the Plaxico Burress story by now. The latest news is that the New York Giants have shelfed the thug for the remainder of the regular season AND the playoffs. It is assumed that he has played his last game as a Giant. Kudos goes to the Giants for how they handled this situation. Coming from an Eagles fan, complimenting the Giants doesn’t come easy. Other teams in the league, actually, in the Giants’ very division, should follow New York’s lead in handling their trash… I mean players.

Fantasy Land
Our top two fantasy point earners this week play on the same team… one of them was even benched last week. Actually, he top four point earners only came from two games. Aaron Rodgers has been on and off the board, but our final two fantasy studs of the week and making debut appearances. In fact, Mark Clayton is only owned by 13% of Yahoo Sports fantasy managers.
