It seems that Courtney Love hasn’t burnt every last brain cell. The widow of Kurt Cobain has halted the casting of Twilight’s Robert Pattinson in a biopic about her troubled rocker husband Kurt Cobain. It seems Courtney has figured out what Hollywood is soon to find out. Outside of the Twilight franchise these teen wolves and neck bitters do not have any box office power.
Twilight is Robert Pattinson’s first leading role; he previously was a supporting actor in the Harry Potter films. Like Harry Potter, Twilight relies on the book to sell the movie. Anyone could be cast in either movie and tickets are going to sell.
After reading a three inch thick book the reader is compelled to see the movie. Summit Entertainment saw this trend with the Potter flicks. In a move to save money and maximize profits Summit was smart and did not cast A list actors. The problem with B and C list actors is you get B and C list performances.
The acting in Twilight, Twilight New Moon and Twilight Eclipse is on par with a modestly produced porn movie. The directing and horrid special effects do not help the film’s cause. Still Courtney Love taking a pass on Robert Patterson is not all his fault.
Without a doubt the embarrassing flop of Kristen Stewart’s’ Runaways biopic did not help Patterson’s case. Stewart was cast as Godmother of Punk Joan Jett in the recent release. The movie was received so badly a week after its release it is difficult to find a theater showing it. This now almost direct to DVD embarrassment has lost more money to date than Bernie Madoff’s victims. This is partly due to hefty deals for Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart. The other factor for the movie’s financial crash was the huge media blitz behind the film.
Probably more important than the ticket sales to Courtney Love is the way Kurt is to be portrayed. Courtney Love is a mess, still she has never pimped the memory of Curt Cobain. There is no way she is going to let a talentless hack play the darkest most complex persona the music industry has ever seen. Courtney is staying true to Kurt and Nirvana’s fans.
Nirvana fans are now in their 30’s, 40’s and even 50’s now. If a biopic is made there is no reason to have Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Sharkboy Taylor Lautner, Dakota Fanning or any of The Jonas Brother in the movie. Cobain’s life was dark and ugly there is no way to spin this for mindless tweens. …you should never see this film on ABC Family or The Disney Channel.
So kudos to Courtney Love for doing the right thing, we will not see Robert Pattinson as Kurt Cobain. I guess this means we definiltlly will not see the shirtless Taylor Lautner as Dave Grohl. Still this doesn’t get her off out list of the Top 10 Celebrities You Would Never Sleep With.
