What do I mean the White Sox are the top team? There are four teams in the American League alone that have better records, and two more in the National League. Is this Cletus writing again? Well, if you read the first three words in the title of this article, you’d know I am talking about the TMR Zoo Double Play Contest… of which the White Sox have the most wins by any team in MLB at the All-Star Break.
Since they haven’t scored the most runs in the league during any given week this season, the White Sox have done it all on the backs of their pitchers… much like how their season is going. They finished as the team which allowed the least amount of runs in baseball four times in the first 13 complete weeks of the 2010 Major League Baseball season. Three of those wins came in the last four weeks, so those pitchers are on fire right now.
It is no surprise that the Sox are sitting atop the AL Central standings right now, but the Detroit Tigers are right on their ass .5 games out and the Twins are just 3.5 games behind. They have only lost 1 game so far in July after finishing June with an 18-9 record. Their 24-34 start is about the only thing that has kept their division opponents close this season. It was the second week of June when the pitchers decided to tun it on.
We’ll continue to monitor the Sox pitching staff for you, but it would probably be a smart move to start guessing them as your pitching pick for the foreseeable future.
In the “runs scored” department, no team has won the week more than twice, and only two teams have done that… the Cincinnati Reds and Tampa Bay Rays. The Reds did it in back to back weeks at the quarter-mark of the season while the Rays did it early and then again recently. The top scoring team on the season so far has been the Boston Red Sox, followed by the Yankees and Rangers. Then the Reds and Rays come in as the fourth and fifth-highest scoring teams in baseball.
As we come out of the break keep these tidbits of information in mind when making your selections. The White Sox combined with the Yanks or Red Sox sounds like a ringer to me.
Even though we are on the break, we never stopped accepting entries for the Double Play Contest. Right now it is time to enter your week 15 picks… so do it NOW:
Entering the Double Play contest couldn’t be easier. Essentially, all you need to do is pick two Major League Baseball teams. Using the drop down boxes on the entry page, pick the professional team you think will score the most runs in the upcoming week, then pick the team that will give up the least amount of runs. After you’ve selected your teams, guess the actual number of runs for each category in the fields provided. Each week we will update you on the top scoring teams in the league as well as the teams that allow the least amount of runs.
To win the prize, you must correctly identify the two teams. The scores you entered will be used to break any ties in the Double Play. If nobody can guess the two teams correctly, then no one wins the prize and it rolls over into the next week… and combined with another prize. The longer we go without a weekly winner, the bigger the prize pack becomes. Check the main prizing page to see how big the pot is now.
Once you’ve entered the TMR Zoo Double Play, you are automatically entered into the Jagermeister Grand Slam. If you have correctly guessed the two teams AS WELL as the exact number of runs scored and allowed, you have hit the Jager Grand Slam and win the Jagermeister 6-Bottle Shot Cooler.
Jagermeister, the brand known for pioneering the original bar party, with its signature Jagerettes, ground-breaking Tap Machine and category-changing Ice Cold Shots, is proud to introduce the newest innovation – the revolutionary new Jagermeister 6-Bottle Shot Cooler. The 6-Bottle shot cooler comes with six 750ml bottles and 50 shot cups – Just add ice and the party begins! You must be over 21 to win.
Remember, you are entering your guess for the UPCOMING week of baseball (7/18/10 – 7/24/10). The entry period for week 15 will close on Saturday at 11:59pm. Good Luck!
