San Francisco Giants Pitchers Hold Opposing Teams To League-Leading 10 Runs Scored For 2nd Straight Week

Make it two for the San Francisco Giants, who held opposing offenses to 10 total runs in a single week’s span for the second week in a row. That makes them this week’s winner in the “least runs allowed” category in out MLB Double Play Contest. You would think the Giants would be on top pretty often in that category with their starting pitching staff, but it is only the third time they have done so in 2010. In that two-week span, the Giants player all NL West rivals with the exception of 2 games against the Brewers to end last weeks.

The top offense for week 23 of the 2010 Major League Baseball season was that of the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies scored 42 runs in six games, also against all NL West teams. They dropped 19 on the Dodgers alone over two games. This was the second time this season that the Rockies scored the most runs in the league in any given week.

We had guesses for both teams in both categories, but no entry had both teams in the appropriate column. The Giants were actually the most-picked team in the pitching category, but no one matched them up with the Rockies on offense. Since there was no winner, we’ll add another prize to the pot.

This is it! This is the last week the enter your picks for the 2010 season. Choose wisely and you may walk away with our great prize pack. Good Luck! Simply click the link below to enter:

Entering the Double Play contest couldn’t be easier. Essentially, all you need to do is pick two Major League Baseball teams. Using the drop down boxes on the entry page, pick the professional team you think will score the most runs in the upcoming week, then pick the team that will give up the least amount of runs. After you’ve selected your teams, guess the actual number of runs for each category in the fields provided. Each week we will update you on the top scoring teams in the league as well as the teams that allow the least amount of runs.

To win the prize, you must correctly identify the two teams. The scores you entered will be used to break any ties in the Double Play. If nobody can guess the two teams correctly, then no one wins the prize and it rolls over into the next week… and combined with another prize. The longer we go without a weekly winner, the bigger the prize pack becomes. Check the main prizing page to see how big the pot is now.
