Sony Pictures Brings 3D Green Hornet Content to Mobile Devices

In anticipation of the nationwide release of the 3D action-comedy The Green Hornet on January 14, 2011, Sony Pictures launches The Green Hornet On-The-Go campaign enabling moviegoers to interact with 3D content and games via their mobile devices.

Using mobile marker technology from WiMO Reality, moviegoers can use their smartphones to scan the logo for The Green Hornet and be directed to a mobile site created exclusively for the On-The-Go program. The site provides a sneak peek in the form of 3D digital collector cards.

Wherever a consumer sees the WiMO-enabled Green Hornet logo on any printed or online materials, they can use their smartphones to scan it with a free app from WiMO Reality. With the aid of specially marked, limited-edition 3D glasses, moviegoers can enjoy the digital collectors cards directly from their mobile device screens. The glasses, designed to look like a black mask, will be distributed at select theaters nationwide, and at various stops on the national tour of the Black Beauty car – the transportation of choice for the Green Hornet and his sidekick, Kato. Included with the glasses is a 3D collectors’ image of Black Beauty smashing through the page.

Consumers visiting participating Carl’s Jr. locations during November through the film’s release will also find in-store materials for the film tagged with a special WiMO-enabled marker. Scanning the marker, which looks like a series of dots, gives users access to an exclusive Carl’s Jr. mobile site that showcases a special video message from Seth Rogen, a video about Black Beauty, and more. The application allows consumers to save the content after they view it and to receive automatic updates of new content as it is added to the mobile site.

“With the increased usage of mobile applications, people are enjoying entertainment content while they’re on the go – so we wanted to bring The Green Hornet right to consumers on their devices,” said Dwight Caines, President, Worldwide Digital Marketing, Sony Pictures. “The most exciting part is that we’re delivering this in 3D.”

In addition to the mobile marker technology, The Green Hornet On-The-Go campaign includes games for Android™, iPhone and iPad devices. Android users can download The Green Hornet™ Crime Fighter game from the Android Market for free or visit www.GreenHornetGame.com to play the game on their mobile flash enabled browser.

Players can choose to be The Green Hornet or Kato in this street-fighting style game.

Those with iPhones or iPads can download The Green Hornet™ Wheels Of Justice iPhone/iPad game, which is already available in the App Store. This 3D action driving game lets players navigate Black Beauty through dangerous downtown streets while defending the city against an array of gangsters.

About The Green Hornet

In The Green Hornet, Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) is the son of LA’s most prominent and respected media magnate and perfectly happy to maintain a directionless existence on the party scene – until his father (Tom Wilkinson) mysteriously dies, leaving Britt his vast media empire. Striking an unlikely friendship with one of his father’s more industrious and inventive employees, Kato (Jay Chou), they see their chance to do something meaningful for the first time in their lives: fight crime. To get close to the criminals, they come up with the perfect cover: they’ll pose as criminals themselves. Protecting the law by breaking it, Britt becomes the vigilante The Green Hornet as he and Kato hit the streets. Using all his ingenuity and skill, Kato builds the ultimate in advanced retro weaponry, Black Beauty, an indestructible car equal parts firepower and horsepower. Rolling in a mobile fortress on wheels and striking the bad guys with Kato’s clever gadgets, The Green Hornet and Kato quickly start making a name for themselves, and with the help of Britt’s new secretary, Lenore Case, they begin hunting down the man who controls LA’s gritty underworld: Benjamin Chudnofsky (Christoph Waltz). But Chudnofsky has plans of his own: to swat down The Green Hornet once and for all. The film is directed by Michel Gondry. The screenplay is by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, based upon “The Green Hornet” radio series created by George W. Trendle. The producer is Neal H. Moritz
