Beers from Alltech’s Lexington Brewing & Distilling Company have once again earned top honors in a major international competition. Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale and Kentucky Light took gold and silver medals, respectively, at the prestigious Brew NZ Beer Awards recently held in New Zealand.
“We are delighted that our beers have once again proven themselves to be among the best beers in world,” said Dr. Pearse Lyons, founder and president of Alltech’s Lexington Brewing & Distilling Company.
The 2010 Brew NZ Beer Awards attracted entries from nearly 500 breweries around the world. Renowned as a pre-eminent international showcase for premium beer and brewing excellence worldwide, the annual event is the Asia-Pacific region’s most prestigious beer competition.
Alltech’s Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale won the gold medal for Specialty, Experimental Aged, Barrel & Wood Aged Style beer. Alltech’s Kentucky Light Ale picked up the silver medal in the European Ale Styles category.
Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, the Official Beer of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010, also took silver medals this year at both the Great American Beer Festival and the World Beer Cup, the largest commercial beer competition in the world.
“Bourbon is unique to Kentucky and craft beer is unique to Alltech,” said Lyons. “Combining the two into Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale was logical to us, and these awards show that the world thinks the same.”
A unique sipping beer with the distinctive nose of finely crafted bourbon, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is aged for up to six weeks in freshly decanted bourbon barrels from Kentucky’s finest distilleries. Hints of vanilla and oak are absorbed by the ale as it rests in the charred barrels. Smooth and robust, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale may also be served as an aperitif or an after-dinner drink.
Kentucky Light is a classic Kolsch style top fermented ale, a style of beer emanating from Cologne, Germany. Light in color, but full in flavor, Kentucky Light is sure to please the avid craft beer enthusiast and the light beer drinker alike.
Located in downtown Lexington and celebrating their decade anniversary, Alltech’s Lexington Brewing Company has been creating award-winning beers since 2000. Kentucky Ale was launched in that year, Kentucky Light followed in 2003 and Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale completed Kentucky’s Triple Crown of Beers in 2006.
Alltech’s beers, which are Lexington’s only locally brewed beers, is available in the Kentucky Ale Tap Room, a sports bar in the main concourse of downtown Louisville’s new arena, the KFC Yum Center.
