LONGMONT, Colo…On March 4 of the Twenty Ten, Oskar Blues Brewery altered the amplitude of canned beer as the new seasonal creation, GUBNA Imperial IPA was officially sworn in. True to Oskar Blues style, the canning party was a momentous occasion where the GUBNA was shared, canned and prepared to ship out to liquor stores across the good ol’ US of A. The “inauguration” was complete with a “Sweet Home Alabama” sing along, tasty vittles, contests and flowing Oskar Blues brew enjoyed in honor of the new GUBNA.
So what’s all the Harrumph, Harrumph about this new GUBNA in town? Emphasizing that complexity of character can arise from simple elements; this ale is made with three malts and one hop. Its light amber color and spicy malt character are derived from the use of German dark Munich malt and rye malt respectively. The GUBNA Imperial IPA will greet beer drinkers with a pungent citrus blast, provide a spicy, yet round middle, and finish with a brisk, clean bitterness.
North American two-row barley combines with the other grains to lay the foundation for the hop onslaught to come. Summit hops are used exclusively in the boil for bitterness, flavor and aroma, but it doesn’t end there. Post-fermentation dry hopping allows the 10 percent ABV monstrosity to gently coax the citrus rind and grapefruit aroma to join the 100 IBUs already present.
Coinciding as a rotating seasonal with the brewery’s iconic winter offering Ten FIDY Imperial Stout, the GUBNA Imperial IPA will be conveniently packaged in 12-ounce cans and sold in four-pack carriers. The suggested retail price of this seasonal brew will be $14.49 per four-pack. Oskar Blues Brewery’s GUBNA Imperial IPA joins an impressive line-up of boundary-busting canned beer getable in 26 states.
