Baseball and beer have taken their long-standing relationship to a new level in Lexington. The Lexington Legends and Alltech announced the opening of the Kentucky Ale Taproom at Whitaker Bank Ballpark Tuesday. Formerly known as the Maker’s Mark Club, the Kentucky Ale Taproom is not only a gathering spot for Legends fans to enjoy baseball games, it also is the site of many business meetings and other special events throughout the calendar year. Seating is available for 150.
“2010 was an incredible year for Alltech’s Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company with a silver medal in the World Beer Cup and the designation as the official beer of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games,” said Dr. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech. “Yet 2011 has already seen Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale’s first beer order from China and the expansion of our beer into Boston and Indiana. Now we’re on tap for the Lexington Legends.”
“Two of Lexington’s favorite brands that mean ‘FUN’, the Lexington Legends and Kentucky Ale, have come together for a long-term partnership that makes both great business sense as well as being terrific for our fans at Whitaker Bank Ballpark,” said Legends President/CEO Alan Stein. “Being associated with Deirdre and Pearse Lyons and the Alltech culture of excellence will only serve to help the Legends reinforce their commitment to being the very best.”
“We’re very grateful to Alan Stein and the Lexington Legends family for the opportunity to be involved in shaping the future of America’s favorite pastime,” said Nathan Hohman, chief financial officer at Alltech. “We are looking forward to being on tap for the celebration of countless Lexington Legends victories over the coming years.”
Kentucky Ale is one of three brands of beer produced by Alltech at its Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company, which began operations in 2000. Kentucky Ale, Kentucky Light and Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale are Lexington’s only locally-produced beers.
