Early reports from retailers are coming in that Black Friday 2011 may be one of the better events in Thanksgiving shopping history. Online sales have jumped up 39% from 2010 and cell phone traffic almost tripled from 2010 levels.
The news hasn’t been completely rosy however, shoppers in a Los Angeles area Wal*Mart turned ugly when pepper spray was used by another consumer as a tool to get a better spot in the line for video games.
Apparently 20 people got sprayed as one lone woman attempted to procure an Xbox console for her Christmas list.
According to the L.A. Times:
“The woman apparently sought to purchase an Xbox video game console and used the spray to clear out other shoppers. About 20 customers, including children, were hurt in the Thursday night incident, which police officials called ‘shopping rage.’ Shoppers complained of minor skin and eye irritation and sore throats.”
LAPD are currently viewing video tape evidence no doubt in order to force an addition to Santa’s naughty list.
