This week 9 Monday Night Football contest features two NFL teams that are in dire straights right now. Both the Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints are grasping at straws and sporting losing records in a division where the current leader could wrap things up within a few weeks. Also, both head coaches, Andy Reid and (absentee) Sean Payton could find themselves on the free agent market come season’s end… or possibly sooner.
The Eagles have dropped three in a row to get to a 3-4 mark after starting the season 3-1. The Saints are still only at 2-5, but won 2 in a row and started showing some momentum before being brought down to Earth by the Broncos last week in a 34-14 drubbing. There doesn’t seem to be any ounce of momentum streaming free for either of these teams.
The biggest flaw of either team is the New Orleans defense. They’ve given up no less than 24 points in every contest this season so far. They rank in the bottom three in any kind of team defensive stat you can think of. However, the Philly offense, despite the big names, has not been lighting up the scoreboard and hasn’t seemed very hard to contain this season at all. They have only averaged 17 points per game so far.
The spread for tonight’s game is Eagles +3 with and over/under of 52.5… so someone in Vegas thinks there is going to be some scoring tonight.
Monday Night Football is being broadcast on ESPN, so you can catch their live stream at espn.go.com/watchespn. Blackout rules do apply to that broadcast though. First Row Sports, an international site, is also known for hosting free live streams of NFL Football.
