We have a nice pair of prime time games this weekend, starting with tonight’s week 11 match up between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens. This is the first of two games in a three week time span that these two teams play each other. The Ravens can put the division away, or the Steelers can use the two games to crawl to the top of the standings. This first of two grudge matches will be played in Pittsburgh, which should give them the advantage. However, Ben Roethlisberger is a definite scratch this week and could still be out in a few weeks when the two teams meet again in Baltimore. The Steelers have been the very definition of “the walking wounded” so far this season with key player being out for almost every game, including their entire running back corps in some cases.
Fortunately for the Steelers, Rashard Mendenhall will be able to start for the first time in four games, although it will be Byron Leftwich handing off to him.
The Ravens entered today fairly healthy (minus the season-ending injury to Ray Lewis) with a bunch of “probables” listed on their injury report and starting cornerback Jimmy Smith out. Baltimore is coming off of a 55 point performance last week against the Oakland Raiders. Joe Flacco posted 3 passing touchdowns, and one rushing, while racking almost 350 yards. He’ll need to continue this kind of play for the Ravens to extend their season deep into the playoffs.
The point spread is favoring the Ravens today with -3, even thought the game is being played in Pittsburgh. It’s appropriate though with the backup QB in for the Steelers and a running back corps that is still not 100%. The Steelers will need to bring a flawless game to the table to win this one.
