Jarvis Jones Signs Contract With Pittsburgh Steelers

The total number of first round picks from the 2013 NFL Draft has improved to five as Jarvis Jones signs his contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The contract is a four year deal worth $8.7M, including a $4.7M signing bonus.

The Steelers selected Jarvis Jones, a linebacker from Georgia, with their first pick in the 2013 Draft and 17th pick overall. Unlike the previous four 2013 first round picks signed so far, Jones is not expected to start right away since the Steelers are known for making their rookies, especially linebackers, earn their stripes before being handed a starting job.

That is five down, 27 more first round draft picks to go. If you think you know who will be the very last first round draft pick to sign, make your guess in our First Pick/Last signed contest.

The Steelers have now signed seven of their nine draft picks.

Jarvis Jones Signs – 2013 NFL Draft Profile

Under the new collective bargaining agreement, all NFL first-round draft picks can have four-year contracts with a non-negotiable fifth-year option, although not all will receive it. With the new rules, it makes it much easier, and quicker, to sign the top tier draft picks.

How he plays over the next few years will determine how much bigger, or smaller, the amount is the next time Jarvis Jones signs a contract.
