The Low Down
I’ve seen a few wacky things during my time reviewing gentlemen’s clubs: the occasional drunken patron, absurdly over-hustling dancers, even a guy who brought in his service dog (which I called B.S. on; I think he just didn’t want to leave his dog in the car during the hot summer months). Walking in on a bunch of guys drinking, partying and with t-shirts with “Police” on the back of them was certainly at the top of my list. That is, until I realized that they were all part of a stag (bachelor) party! Yes, that’s the kind of crowd that Obsessions draws… one that’s looking for a fun time in a festive atmosphere. I arrived at the club at around 11:00pm on a Saturday evening during my recent visit to Manchester for Sexhibition, and rated the club on a scale of one to five stars, with five being the best possible score. Oh, and as this is an “international version” of my gentlemen’s club reviews, I’m using the British Pound symbol “£” for all prices, so be sure to check currency conversion rates before you go.
Location & Facilities – 3.5 Stars
Obsessions is located in the Deansgate Locks section of Manchester, within walking distance of the Deansgate train station, the Manchester Central Convention Complex and the shops and restaurants that line Deansgate. This one-floor club has a relatively spacious – yet very red & dark – interior with one pole, lots of couches, predominantly hip-hop music and a nightclub vibe yet seemingly frequented by locals.
Staff – 4 Stars
I didn’t interact with much of the staff during my visit; however, everyone was friendly and courteous, including the cute bartender Olivia who took care of my drinks.
Food & Drink – 3.5 Stars
The club doesn’t serve food, as is common with all of the Manchester gentlemen’s clubs that I visited; however, I did find a well-stocked bar. I enjoyed an £8.50 Malibu & pineapple, which was slightly cheaper than competing gentlemen’s clubs in the area.
Dancers – 3 Stars
I enjoyed the fact that the dancers at the bikini bar were multi-ethnic – something of a common theme amongst UK gentlemen’s clubs – although the one major turn-off was that they were also very aggressive hustlers, despite there being an abundance of customers during my visit. I did enjoy the company of both Lauren from Leeds and Katie, from the Dominican Republic, during my visit.
Value – 4.5 Stars
I found the prices at Obsessions to be comparable to, if not better, than competing clubs in the area. Cover was £10, while couch dances are available at 3 minutes for £20 and go up to 60 minutes for £240.
Website & Social Media – 3 Stars
Obsessionsclub.co.uk offers all of the basics you’ll need to plan out your visit as well as some additional benefits, such as free (with prebooking) party admission and information on the club’s pole dancing classes. The major downsides are that the club’s website doesn’t offer links to social media and their “gallery” is basically a grouping of stock images of topless women that don’t really emphasize the club or its offerings.
In Brief…
Obsessions makes for a solid locals club with a fun atmosphere and friendly staff; highly recommended if you’re looking for a fun night out in Manchester with a group of your friends.
