Review: The Dyson V8 Cordless Vacuum Has Us Blown Away

When you look at the history of Dyson, it is amazing James Dyson’s vision started with the design of a boat propulsion system at the age of 23. Dyson’s design allowed oil and construction companies to move a three-ton load over water at 50 miles per hour. It is no surprise the military also adopted Dyson’s design for their nautical needs.

Fast forward to today and James Dyson’s designs can be found in homes and business around the world.  In a nutshell, Dyson’s products move air more efficiently than any model on the market. Dyson vacuums, fans, and dryers have become the unequaled standard in their classes. If you have used a Dyson AIrblade hand dryer, you remember the first time you looked at its futuristic design in awe and marveled as it efficiently and quickly removed the water from your hands.

How cool does a hand dryer have to be for people to return to their restaurant table with a tale of the marvelous hand dryer in the restroom? This is the effect all Dyson products have on all individuals that see or use them for the first time. The marriage of design and function of all Dyson products is fantastic.

Today we are going to take a look at a new product from Dyson that advances the marriage of design and function Dyson is known for, the Dyson V8 cordless vacuum.

When unboxing the Dyson V8 cordless vacuum, the first thing I noticed is it is incredibly light. Dyson packs plenty of documentation with the vacuum. However, common sense and stickers on the vacuum allow you to assemble it quickly. Attachments for hardwood floors, crevices, and upholstery are included with the Dyson V8 cordless vacuum. These accessories lend themselves to a myriad of applications we will get to in a bit.

I was a bit disappointed that I had already vacuumed the day my Dyson V8 cordless vacuum arrived. I was eager to give it a trial run. Being the impatient person, I am I gave the Dyson V8 cordless vacuum a run over my freshly cleaned office carpets.

The first thing I noticed was how light and easy to navigate the Dyson V8 cordless vacuum is. The V8 weighs under 6 lbs and is easy to move not only from room to room but also up and down stairs. With the first pass of the Dyson V8 cordless vacuum on the carpet, I could see how powerful it is. The Dyson V8 cordless vacuum was pulling dust, dirt, and debris out of carpets I would have sworn clean. Continuing around the house, I watched Dyson’s dust bin quickly collect dust and dirt. Please don’t judge me I keep a clean house, or at least I thought I did.

With the click of a single button, I was able to switch from the direct drive cleaner head to the soft dusting brush. I had a smile plastered on my face as I was cleaning ceiling vents and areas in my house I would typically need a ladder of a step stool to clean. I was flying around the house tackling problem areas in record time.

Making the Dyson V8 cordless vacuum more versatile is the extension tube can be removed from the vacuum allowing you to turn it into the most powerful handheld vacuum I have ever used. Attaching the hardwood floor attachment I was able to clean my stairs in record time with little effort. I then attached the direct drive head on the Dyson V8 cordless vacuum and headed out to the driveway to tackle my car.

Cleaning the car was a joy. With the larger head, I was able to clean the car’s carpets with little effort. The crevice tool and combination tool allowed me to finish off the job easily reaching between the seats and cleaning out the dash vents. I was delighted to have the convenience of Dyson’s power without dragging extension cords and my huge home vacuum out to the driveway. The alternative is heading to my local carwash to dump fistfuls of quarters into a machine with a small vacuum head. We all know how difficult it is to get those vacuums in crevices. I also cringe whenever I drag the hard plastic head across my leather upholstery. The Dyson’s soft dusting brush attachment gently but powerfully cleaned all of my interior.

The Dyson V8 cordless vacuum has a run time of 40 minutes. It gave me plenty of time to tackle many tasks. The beauty of the charge is it is “fade-free”. You get as much power and suction during minute 39 as you do at the first charge. When not in use the Dyson V8 cordless vacuum has a docking station that charges the unit and holds your attachments.

Maintenance of the Dyson V8 cordless vacuum is also a dream. You can eject dirt and dust from the dustbin in a single action. The bin is a generous 0.14 gallons allowing you to get plenty of cleaning done without the need to frequently emptying the unit. The filter is washable ending the need to buy and replace expensive filters. The HEPA filtration will give you a lifetime of use capturing dust and allergens around your home.

The Dyson V8 cordless vacuum is not only the best vacuum I have ever used it is also fun to use. Yes, I said vacuuming is fun. Making tasks easy and fast to tackle make the Dyson V8 cordless vacuum an enjoyable household appliance to use.
