Proteus build thread (uber-tele) - CTN - 04-10-2015 Alrighty. Shit just got real. The body arrived today, along with the pickups, I still have more testing to do as well as lots of planning, gotta get some more parts and hardware in. I spent the evening drawing all over the body, then I noticed that I'd have to fill/re-drill the neck mounting holes on the neck, and that I'd have to re-size the neck P90 route. I mistakenly forgot to tell Mitch at KNE guitars that I was using a soapbar P90, and he routed it for a dogear/pickguard mount P90. Oops. Anyway I have a lot of careful planning to do regarding the many many carves, as well as a lot of testing to do on the paint. I went to home depot and picked up more ash blocks to test on. I want to play around with the orange and try to darken it a bit and give it a bit more depth of colour, as well as try to make the transitions between the blues a bit better while at the same time seeing if I can work in a lighter blue into the lighter areas so it looks more watery and less sandy. Anyway, onto the pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() K, I'm gonna go order the last of the parts and then call it a night. RE: Proteus build thread (uber-tele) - CTN - 04-10-2015 Decided to complicate my life. Gonna strip all the poly or lacquer or whatever the hell is on that schecter neck and redo it in tru oil, perhaps with a color to match the body. And a CTN decal on the headstock which I will also redo in translucent black or maybe dark blue. RE: Proteus build thread (uber-tele) - youngthrasher9 - 04-11-2015 I vote no on the neck color. Bolt necks tag match the body look tacky to me, personally. It's like "one day when I grow up I want to be a set-neck!". But idk, your guitar man. RE: Proteus build thread (uber-tele) - CTN - 04-11-2015 Bahahahaha. Fair enough! Though after stripping the neck I'm definitely gonna have to put some colour back. Not sure I want it to be raw white maple. RE: Proteus build thread (uber-tele) - Big Flannel - 04-11-2015 Remember this: A good tele is a simple tele. Leave that neck plain. RE: Proteus build thread (uber-tele) - Agileguy - 04-11-2015 Amber tint would be cool IMO. Devin, I wouldn't consider a carved top Tele simple. RE: Proteus build thread (uber-tele) - Big Flannel - 04-11-2015 Lol, Shut up. Don't listen to him, Ryan. The neck of a guitar is the most important part as far ad playability is concerned. If you want a tele, you want a slightly oiled piece of wood. Or, switch it up and go set-neck. RE: Proteus build thread (uber-tele) - Agileguy - 04-11-2015 IMO, oiled wins for playability, but amber tint meets for aesthetics. RE: Proteus build thread (uber-tele) - Big Flannel - 04-11-2015 A tele is all about playability, IMO. RE: Proteus build thread (uber-tele) - Agileguy - 04-11-2015 True. I wonder if there's some way to get oil to have an amber tint look? That would be tits. |
