ARGH! DVD drive broken

I think when I do replace it, it will go in a lower slot to help with the "knee" problem. Also, IDK how the open button is mounted on this one and if an aftermarket drive will fit.

On that note, what do you recommend for a low usage drive?

I've replaced one before. I was referring to this particular tower and the switch location. I will know more once I open it up.

Can you see the front of the current drive at all, without opening the case?

No. The Dell case has a door.

There are slots beneath behind a drop cover.

It could be a matter of lining it up straight and giving it a good push back in.

I got the drive out relatively easily. The face of the tower has a button on the right, but it moves a bar across the front of the drive. It IS a standard drive, so it would be an easy replacement.

Mounting screws on ONE side, two plugs. Drive is front-loaded into the tower box.

I took the cover off of the drive, and one of the gears had been knocked off the spindle. I placed it back on, remounted the tray, and reassembled everything. now the open/close function is back, and I'm playing a CD in it as I type this.
