It's an awful shame, what happened to that kid. and the umpire actually felt terrible about it. He sounded like he was on the verge of tears in his post-game press conference.
But you have to give Gallaragga and his manager Jim Leyland a lot of credit. They didn't blast the umpire at all. They blasted the system, and talked about what a shame it was that it happened.
The bottom line is, baseball is WAY overdue for instant replay, and if this doesn't put a proper system in place, nothing will.
