I had to buy a car battery last night. It has been 4 or 5 years since I've done so. The last time I bought a premium battery, and I paid either $70 or $80 for it.
The cheapest battery in the store (not for my car) was $119+tax.
I ended up having to spend $193.
Mais wha:?:
I guess I shouldn't complain too much. The battery in my car was the original. The car is a 2006 that I bought new, and only has 70k miles on the odometer.
Still...
Because I said so.

WTF I just got one for the Lex for $120. Are you diving a huge SUV or truck?

I take it this was not at Wallyworld.
I got my last one there. Next one's probably at Costco.

Holy balls! The last premium battery I bought, three years ago was around $80. I bought a brand new cheap battery (for a car I was selling) last Fall for $40. Granted that had low cold cranking amperage, but it was for a car that wasn't going to be driven in the cold anyway.

There's your problem... They price things based on the assumption that you'll be using one of their 50% off coupons.

The old battery looked brand new.
That's one of the advantages of the battery being in the trunk.
