Finding some higher end cork to sniff!
I thought Suhr, Fralin and Lollare were expensive with their prices...

Sad to say, I've been slummin' brothers!
Only $500 for a Strat set/$600 for humbuckers. Not quite Zephyr money, but you get silver wire with those!

That is fine and dandy but I don't like 50's style hummies for the most part. Maybe Blueman needs to save up $500 and he can tell us how they sound.

A good set of PAFs sound good and are very versatile , have had several sets of the real ones in guitars that I no longer own. That being said , we can make better pickups now. I will take my Fralins and Andersons and just be happy with that.

The Shaw I have in the neck of my LP sounded better than the ones in a 59 I played several times and we compared them in 4 different amps.

Better is always subjective.
That said, anyone who has just lightened his or her bank balance to the tune of 600USD is probably going to be trying pretty hard to convince him or herself that the claimed benefits of their new pickups are worth the money.

...or...
Does the mere act of spending $600 on a set of pickups make them sound better to our brains?
One of my favorite paradoxes of nature: The placebo effect is real.
Someone should put that in their signature…

Its that last 5 percent that costs so much to achieve...
Still, I have to say hype.
