NEW YORK, NY, May 30, 2008 – The JVC Jazz Festival New York, which takes over the city June 15 – 28, presents eight exciting evenings at (Le) Poisson Rouge, the brand new club and restaurant located at 158 Bleecker Street, where the legendary Village Gate ushered in crowds of music lovers from around the world until it closed 15 years ago. Produced by The Festival Network, LLC (FN), the series features a progressive lineup of jazz, salsa, soul and groove, as well as techno and hip hop coupled with jazz.
Highlights of the eight-night series at (Le) Poisson Rouge include the JVC Jazz Festival New York debut of Charlie Haden Quartet West; the New York debut of the new Bill Frisell Trio; Detroit techno superstar Carl Craig featuring his band Tribe, made up of seasoned jazz veterans including Marcus Belgrave; and Swedish jazz/pop stars E.S.T on a bill with three savvy bandleaders who joined forces to become Aethereal Bace. Also featured are dynamic singer Simone (Nina Simone’s daughter) and urban folk jazz musician KJ Denhert; JVC Jazz Festival Salutes Art D’Lugoff and “Salsa Meets Jazz,” featuring conguero Poncho Sanchez; Turntables & Samples Meet Jazz with the Marco Benevento Trio, DJ Logic Project Logic and Mocean Worker; soul songstress Ledisi and two nights with New York’s groove machine Soulive with special guest Joshua Redman.
“I really enjoyed programming these concerts and partnering with this vibrant new venue to present a diverse lineup of respected musicians showcasing their latest ideas alongside some of today’s brightest stars,” said Jason Olaine, Festival Network’s Vice President of Programming. “With the history of The Festival Network and the former Village Gate shining through, we are presenting a great combination of unique groupings of talented and adventurous artists that will be enjoyed and hopefully remembered not only by area New Yorkers, but also by the many music lovers who travel here for the JVC Jazz Festival.”
