Suds With Securb: Rhymes With Bruce

joose1Ok I will admit walked into this wanting to totally bash this beverage. Then this malt liquor hit my lips. I bought this beverage on a goof and surprised myself, I like Dragon Joose.

I was in my new favorite high-end beer store. It borders one of the most urban communities in Massachusetts: Lowell Mass. This city was the backdrop of HBO’s documentary “24 Hours on Crack Street”.  As you can imagine there is a cooler full of ice cold high gravity malt offerings. Still this store is  stocked with one of the best selections of microbrews in the area.

I had three reasons for picking this hip hop offering along with my hi-end beers. I was born in the Year of the Dragon, a drink called Dragon Joose has to get a try. Looking closer at the black and purple can I noticed this beverage was not only 9.9% alcohol by volume but also my favorite flavor grape.

Looking even closer I noticed that the drink was also caffeine infused. At $2.25 a can this was a must buy. There is no way I could walk away without trying this hip new beverage.

The pour is like a light grape soda. The nose is of convenience store grape slush could this be a fruit beer? There is a bitter finish. It has to be hops if the can claims to be a “malt liquor”.

Bottom line is this is very drinkable. If you are looking for the next big thing in microbrews this isn’t it. If you are looking for a 23 oz grape energy drink that is 9.9% ABV this will do the job.

As I was banging down this tasty beverage I visited the Joose website. The site is a hip hop wonderland. There is a media player that pumps out Joose inspired rap. Some of it is pretty good.

Being a musician maybe I will submit some ill beats myself.  I don’t think it will be that difficult for me to come up with something.

It does rhyme with Bruce.
