The Philly Beer School To Debut A One-Of-A-Kind Beer Certification Program

stock beerPhiladelphia can now boast a distinct advantage over any other beer loving city in the country. This week the Philly Beer School is rolling out the ultimate brewing program for beer enthusiasts, the Foundations of Beer Diploma.

The Diploma is a must-have for all amateur brewers. Led by Master Brewer Dean Browne, the program will include classes on brewing, beer styles, beer and food pairing, and the science of fermenting, all designed to set the novice on his or her path to creating award-winning homebrews.

The announcement comes on the heels of a feature article in Draft Magazine highlighting the School’s early success. “I always knew we had something special in the Philly Beer School, but the piece on us in Draft earlier this year – and the stir it created in the international media as a result – shows me that there is no better time to get started.”

Adds Collin Flatt, the School’s newest Beer Instructor: “Philly is considered one of the top five beer cities in America. I think the fact that we are the only city to have an actual Beer School will put us over the top to number one.”

Kicking off in September, students will immerse themselves in an eight-week program that provides hands-on experience in designing tailor-made brews. “No student of mine will leave without a thorough understanding of where flavor and aroma in beer come from and how a brewer puts together a recipe,” promises Dean. Classes will be held at both the Beer School and at the Philadelphia Brewing Company. The cost of the program is a mere $425, an introductory rate that will not be repeated.

The Beer School is located at 2008 Fairmount Avenue in Philadelphia
