well it's less the attention to detail and more the fact that I wouldn't be able to carve that area in an aesthetically pleasing way if I DIDN'T recess the control plate. So.... down it goes, and then I can sculpt that area nicely.
Also i sanded the neck up to 600 grit and felt pretty good about it so i went ahead and applied the danish oil/raw sienna colour coat. Totally popped the subtle flamey grain.
The tru oil on top of this is gonna look unreal. It's kinda hard to capture the real colour of the thing since it seems to dance around in the light depending on where you're standing, but it's a nice warm amber, just a touch lighter than the regular "vintage amber"
