Nothing real exciting - picked up another Suhr SSV+ to experiment with.  This time with proper spacing.

It had been drilled out, so fixed that and put a cover on it.  Also tried the old partial split/cap trick.  Better, but not sure I'm liking that as its still really scooped but better than just split.  Using a 1.5K and .33uf cap - Its a little lower than the PRS value.

Maybe I ought to throw in the towel and say HSS is just not for me.  Get a Twangmaster and a 500K pot.  huge grin

Are those stacked humbuckers or real single coils ?

That guitar has 2 V60LP's, which are true single coils. Also a Silent Single Coil backplate, like the one Lindy Fralin sells. The SSV+ is a warmish PAF clone.

You can always try a series/split/parallel with a 3 way switch left dangling to see if you like any of those sounds more. That is a very trebly pot you are using maybe do some cap swapping or setup several different ones on a breadboard and cycle through them. I always have issues with the single coils when I mix them with humbuckers due to volume drop.

Actually I have volume issues with a straight split humbucker (unless its a really hot one) - the partial split/cap makes levels a little more -ahem- even.

I do have a SSH+ I snagged intending to run that in straight parallel mode, but I think I'm going to snag a Fralin Twangmaster on Memorial Day weekend.

Played it with distortion last night - Rolling a lot of treble off still. I need to roll off treble or it starts to grate on my ears after a few minutes. Covered pickup, Tone on '7'. Treble all the way down, presence all the way down gain down 2 on the preset. EV's in thiele cabs - bottom end is pretty big on those.

Sounds really nice that way - more of a Knopfler humbucker tone. No wah in the chain, just a compressor turned off. Got to convince myself I don't need that +2 position. :)

Perhaps I'll try a tube driver or parametric EQ in the chain next time - something that will fatten mids. Oddly enough, I've never owned a tube screamer. LOL.
