The most important (and often overlooked) component of a pedalboard is power. Some people rely on batteries for “proper” fuzz tones while lamenting the frequency of which said batteries die. Others swear by daisy-chains and put up with the excess noise they create. Neither of those options work for me. I, like many of you, have spent more money on...

Tired of self-absorbed photocopy pop stars, whiny gutless hipster bands or ‘urban’ music? Are you sick of everything sounding the same, or having less original creativity than your last dump Bored of pretentious lyrics that preach whatever the latest socially correct drivel you could care less about? Looking for something fun, creative and different without being more screwed up than a soup...

Fingerboard Road is an exciting excursion inside songs, some that were ingrained into the population when Top 40 radio ruled. Steely Dan's "Peg" has the guitar speaking the vocal melody on this all-instrumental disc. Ray Charles 1960 classic, Georgia On My Mind gets the soulful longing transferred from Ray's immaculate voice to the guitar string in a soothing and beautiful...

Eric Clapton - Slowhand at 70, Live at the Royal Albert Hall is the guitarmaster's Joe Cocker Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour for his seventieth birthday.   It's an endless party with Clapton backed by a stellar cast that make this experience a fun and lively captured moment that is highly listenable.  Lo and behold - before I read the...

Last Fall, I picked up a Black Magic bridge position humbucker (review). I've been so blown away with the other neck pickups I've tried from Mojotone (i.e., Level Head, PW Hornet, humbucker-size P-90) that I knew the Black Magic neck humbucker couldn't be overlooked. As with the bridge model, the Black Magic has a double row of screw slugs. If...

It's always cool to find a inexpensive little gadget that makes things easier. The ESP Multi Spanner Wrench is one of those tools. There's a lot to be said for something that covers so many bases that many of us commonly deal with. Have you ever had to tighten a nut on your tuning peg or your output jack or...

H3000 Band Delays is a truly unique multi-effect that is part of Eventide’s powerful plug-in bundle, Anthology X. Feed it any instrument...

Leaving Hyannis...a twelve song, thirteen track disc from Scott Damgaard, formerly of psychedelic band the Wayoutz,  is almost as stylistically adventurous as Santana's huge Supernatural cd and outside of singles - where the focus is on one composition - the abrupt shifts can be jarring for the first few spins.   Damgaard is a craftsman who rolls out the melodies and...

Video Game Roundtable Episode 239: The Oops! Edition. If you're wondering what happened to Episode 405, it was recorded, but Jonah's power supply self-destructed, and wasn't available til Wednesday, and by then it was too late to post it. (It will be posted at some point in the near future.) Instead, check out this week's news: Afro Samurai 2 removed...
