Hurricane Sandy Cocktail Suggestions

As Hurricane Sandy prepares to bear down on the east coast, it will bring driving winds and rain. To be prepared emergency preparedness professionals are suggesting effected people do the following. Make sure you have batteries in your flashlights, have plenty of bottled water, in case of power outages effecting ATMs have plenty of cash on hand.

I have one more suggestion; make sure you have plenty of Jim Beam on hand. If you are sitting around the fireplace in the dark tonight, a nice cocktail will warm your bones.  Here are a couple of bourbon inspired recipes perfect for braving this perfect storm.

Jim Beam Hurricane:
3 oz of Jim Beam
2 oz passion fruit juice
1 oz orange juice
1 Tbsp simple syrup
1 Tbsp grenadine
a splash of Rose’s Lime Juice
Preparation: Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice, shake well, strain and serve in a tall glass and garnish with a lime wedge and cherry

Jim Beam Autumn Wind Cocktail:
2 oz Jim Beam Devil’s Cut
1 oz cinnamon schnapps
a dash Angostura bitters
3 oz of farm fresh apple cider
Preparation: Add ingredients to a cocktail glass over ice. Add your apple cider and stir gently.

For our friends braving the storm in New York I must suggest a this spin on a classic cocktail.

Jim Beam Manhattan:
2 oz Jim Beam Red Stag
1/2 oz sweet vermouth
a  dash of Angostura bitters
Preparation: Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice, shake well and serve garnished with a cherry.

So to all of you in the path of the storm, stay safe, dry and try to make the best of your housebound day.
