Suds With Securb: Night Shift Brewing Excels at Fusing Artisan Beers With Unique Ingredients

Boston’s best kept craft beer secret is no longer a secret. Night Shift Brewing is taking Boston and the region by storm and show no signs of slowing down. If you are not yet familiar with this wildly progressive brewery you need to check them out, now!

What I love most about Night Shift Brewing’s offerings is how well their beers pair up with foods and cheese. Night Shift Brewing strays from that traditional brewing ingredients creating some of the most unique and flavorful beers I have ever tasted.

I recently stopped by Night Shift Brewing’s Everett MA operation and was given a tour of the brewery by founders Michael Oxton, Mike O’Mara, and Rob Burns. My big takeaway in spending time with these guys is their passion for all things beer. This passion is apparent in their product.

Night Shift Brewing’s sweet spot is fusing artisan beers with unique ingredients. A great example of this is Night Shift Brewing’s Rose. Rose is a Saison brewed with rosemary, rose hips and pink peppercorns. The beer weighs in at a hefty 8.4% ABV however the alcohol is not overbearing. Unlike as the name infers Rose is not red in color but a hazy orange amber color. The nose has touches of bread and grain with esters of floral, honey and herbs. The beer is light on the palate with an initial sweetness that is washed away with a dry finish. The finish of this beer is interesting there is a hoppiness to the finish that cannot alone be attributed to the hops, some of the bitterness is coming from the rosehips.  Very interesting and very enjoyable.

Rose is just one example of the great beers available from Night Shift Brewing. All of their beers have the same type of depth in the flavors and aromas. These are beers to be savored and each sip seems to bring something new to the aroma and your palate. I would strongly suggest heading out to Night Shift Brewing for a brewery tour or one of their release parties.

Next Wednesday night (1/22) from 5-10pm, Night Shift Brewing is hosting a bottle release party at the brewery for their Cape Codder Weisse – a Berliner Weisse style sour ale aged with fresh cranberries and infused with orange zest! They’ll have it on tap for drafts, and bottles will be available for purchase. They’ll also be tapping a fresh cask that evening, and will have plenty of other beer available (including JoJo, their new pink IPA, and Art #17, a bright, pretty golden ale aged in brandy barrels). Also, they will have The Dining Car food truck featured, so meals will be available on site. CLICK HERE for party ticket details!
