R.I.P. Andrew Samuel “Andy” Griffith (June 1, 1926 – July 3, 2012)

Andrew Samuel “Andy” Griffith The Sherriff of Mayberry has passed away. Andy was not only an incredible actor but also an accomplished gospel singer. The Andy Griffith show not only spun off the successful sitcom Gomer Pyle but also launched Ron Howard’s career.

As most of you know Andy’s little son “Opie” went on to become Richie Cunningham on Happy Days. After his run on Happy Days, Ron Howard when on to become one of the most successful directors in Hollywood.

When asked about Andy Griffith Ron Howard was quoted to say “He proved hour by hour, episode by episode that creativity and neurotic angst were in fact not inexorably linked. He led by example and we demonstrated that a cast and company could play practical jokes on one another, laugh ’til they cried and still get 12 pages of the script shot every day while producing a No. 1-rated show.”

Andy you will be missed and we will continue to watch you on TV Land or wherever Mayberry RFD is shown. Sleep well our friend.
